Santana hasn’t appeared in AEW following the Blood & Guts match on the June 29, 2022, edition of Dynamite.
Santana reportedly had a fallout with his tag team partner Ortiz and began teaming with him less frequently prior to his ACL injury in the Blood & Guts match.
According to a report from Fightful, Santana is still under contract with AEW and has been receiving his paychecks while on the injury shelf. It’s unknown when Santana’s contract will expire.
A source familiar with AEW contracts opined that if Santana’s contract indeed expired in September 2022 as he previously hinted, AEW might attempt to keep him under contract for about two more months, as that would be the actual amount of time he would have had left at the time he was injured in June 2022.
Additionally, Tony Khan is adamant about paying wrestlers while they are injured, including well after their deals would have originally expired.
AEW reportedly paid for over half of a year that Santana could have been “off the books” for the promotion.
