Jeff Jarrett Resigns From TNA: What’s The Deal?

On Monday, just two days before the Christmas holiday in North America, TNA founder Jeff Jarrett announced that he has officially resigned from the company. Jarrett’s departure raises a lot of questions. First and foremost, what happened? Just recently reports surfaced that claimed Jarrett was taking on more management responsibilities in the company following the exit of both Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff.

Jarrett tweeted the following on December 23rd, “On December 22nd, 2013 I officially resigned from TNA Entertainment. Thanks to everyone involved for all the fantastic memories! #grateful.”

If the departure of Jim Ross from WWE earlier this year taught us anything, it’s that often times when someone exits a company, both sides involved will attempt to put a “positive spin” on the situation in the public. Unfortunately, how positive could this situation be? The guy was reportedly taking on more duties behind-the-scenes in recent weeks, yet completely out of the blue, he’s done with the company he created?

In 2002, with the help of his father, legendary Memphis-based promoter Jerry Jarrett, Jeff launched a wrestling promotion he called “Total Nonstop Action.” The idea was to attempt to run a wrestling promotion that had no television support, and was simply a weekly, low-cost pay-per-view alternative to WWE.

Throughout the years, Jarrett’s role was reduced within the company. When Dixie Carter and Panda Energy became owners of the promotion, Jarrett’s role was reduced. When the company brought in Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, Jarrett’s role was basically non-existant. As noted, when Hogan and Bischoff left, Jarrett reportedly took on a large management role in the company once again. Now, completely out of the blue, Jarrett says he’s done with TNA.

Many questions come to mind, yet currently, there are so few answers. eWrestlingNews.com will continue to investigate the situation and we hope to have some answers for you in the coming days and weeks.

Anyone who watches WZRtv on Tuesday night’s, or has read my editorials here at eWN knows, I’ve been predicting for months now some major changes to TNA. I’ve gone on the record as predicting the company, as we currently know it, will not survive 2014. Whether or not this is further evidence remains to be seen.
