Former WWE RAW commentator Jimmy Smith says that WWE is more akin to CM Punk than Brock Lesnar in terms of fighting ability.
Smith parted ways with WWE this week as part of a shakeup to the commentary teams across all three brands in the company.
Speaking about his former employer to MMA on SiriusXM, Smith commented on how WWE’s focus is on wrestlers who look like they can fight, rather than legitimate fighters.
“The WWE behind the scenes is more CM Punk than Brock Lesnar. ‘Does this guy look like he can fight?’ That’s what the WWE is about. Roman Reigns can’t fight. He looks like he can fight. He’s just a big muscular dude.”
Smith’s reference to Punk relates to the AEW star’s doomed attempt in UFC, where he holds a 0-1-0 record with one no-contest.
