— Lucha star Charly Manson, real name Jesús Luna Pozos, was sentenced on Monday to seven years and four months in federal prison in Mexico for the assault of four police officers. As had been previously reported here on the website, the incident went down on April 24th, 2011 where Manson attacked the officers as they tried to arrest him for being drunk. Manson and an underage friend were looking for Manson’s car and couldn’t find it, so they located the officers and asked for help. The police chose to arrest them for being drunk and an argument ensued, which turned into a physical altercation. Manson attacked the officers and severely injured one, giving him a fractured skull and brain trauma. Another officer was severely injured and needed surgery on his nose while the underage friend was shot in the leg by one of the officers.

The prosecuting attorney pushed the seriousness of the assault due to Manson’s skills as a wrestler and argued that Manson’s hands and feet should be considered weapons against the policemen. Manson was charged with aggravated assault against the legitimate exercise of law enforcement, which carried a 5 – 10 year sentence.

Manson has been in jail since a warrant was issued on June 30th, 2011. The friend did his prison time and has been released on parole.
