The following news and notes about MLW come from the most recent MLW Newsletter:

  • The Lucha Bros wrote off TV? – CONTRA Unit’s hostile takeover of MLW Fusion this week was a shocking and disturbing assault broadcast on television around the world.  No one expected the catastrophic wreckage left by the trio of outsiders. After being hit with a fireball by Josef Samael, reports indicate Rey Fenix’s mask melted to part of his face. MLW’s medical confirmed that the former World Tag Team Champion has second and third-degree burns to part of his face but avoided any damage to his eyes.Pentagon wasn’t as fortunate. With injuries reportedly focused around the eyes, Pentagon is currently receiving care for a partially crushed orbital bone and still to be determined cornea damage. Moments after the footage cut out, witnesses saw the 300-pound Jacob Fatu repeatedly gouging Pentagon’s eyes on the floor.  Moments later, the massive Samoan lifted Pentagon up above his head… with his thumbs hooked into Penta’s eye sockets to pick up the luchador.
  • A Von Erich reality show tease – TV cameras will be on the Von Erichs when they touchdown in Milwaukee this weekend. Ross and Marshall Von Erich are being filmed for a possible untitled TV project MLW is co-producing with a major player in reality programming.
  • Many managers, agents, and promoters have stepped forward to pitch Low Ki on representing the ex-World Champ. Will the Brooklyn native remain a lone wolf or link up with a new camp? We may get an indication soon.
  • Salina de la Renta continues “aggressive negotiations” with Court Bauer over producing another episode of MLW Fusion. The Boss and the Puerto Rican powerbroker have had a hot/cold relationship but one thing is certain: the empresaria always delivers.  Salina’s vision of FUSION was one of the most watched broadcasts in MLW history.
  • Jared St. Laurent and George Carroll Jr. attended the USA Wrestling World Team Trials Challenge Tournament earlier this week. Always on the lookout for the next breakout athlete, league officials were impressed by a few amateur grapplers.
  • Jared St. Laurent also attended Saturday night’s ESPN Boxing card featuring Masayuki Ito vs Jamel Herring for the WBO World Junior lightweight Title. Wrestling has featured its fair share of boxers battling wrestlers. Could it happen in MLW at some point?
  • It’s official: MLW has closed a deal for its Dallas debut. More details on this will be available soon.
