There has been a lot of controversy regarding Kenny Omega’s speech during the talent meeting that occurred before AEW Dynamite a few weeks ago. According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega’s speech was described as “tough love” and a “pep talk.”
One line, in particular, seemed to have rubbed people the wrong way. Omega apparently referenced eight out of ten people he wouldn’t have hired, all while looking at Will Ospreay. Omega was said to have been joking and messing with Ospreay. However, some talent took Omega’s comments as being somewhat serious and thought they were in poor taste. Several others say that talent “totally misinterpreted” what Omega said and took his comments out of context.
The report notes that Omega said the vibe in the locker room was “more positive” when the company started and that he may’ve wanted to recreate that atmosphere.
The former AEW World Champion is currently suspended after his involvement in the brawl that took place following the All Out 2022 media scrum.
