Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa reunited earlier this week on WWE RAW, and a new report from Fightful Select reveals that the original plans were set for the summer before being canceled.
WWE had actively planned for a DIY reunion over the summer, with Ciampa positioned to answer Seth Rollins’ open challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship on the June 19th episode of RAW in Cleveland, Gargano’s hometown.
The match was supposed to be disrupted by The Judgment Day before Gargano came out to make the save.
However, the plans were changed heavily in the days leading up to the RAW episode before being canceled entirely. Ciampa wrestled The Miz in an open challenge on the same episode.
Several people involved with those plans were frustrated by the changes and many believed that Gargano’s injury must have been the key factor, however, that wasn’t the case.
Gargano was cleared in late April and WWE simply didn’t use him on television.
