Update on WWE Stars Being Delayed in Saudi Arabia

The WWE crew is back in the United States after being stuck due to “mechanical issues” in Saudi Arabia.

A rumor started by former WWE Spanish commentator Hugo Savinovich that WWE was owed millions of dollars for two of the shows that the company held in Saudi Arabia, between $300 to $500 million.

Dave Meltzer added some more details to the situation on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE wasn’t paid for the WWE Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia on June 7, as of September 30. On Thursday’s WWE third quarter earnings call, WWE avoided answering questions regarding Saudi Arabia.

They did note that they got $60 million after September 30. Meltzer noted that there was “clearly money owed” by the Saudis just hours before Crown Jewel.

Once Vince McMahon didn’t televise Crown Jewel live in Saudi Arabia, it aired on a delay after the two sides made an agreement during the show. Talent was apparently aware that money was owed.

Regarding the plane having mechanical failures, a majority of the talent that reached out to Meltzer didn’t believe the story. The reason for that is due to there being military police there while they waited and them being held up for 24 hours despite attempts to get on a second plane.

Some talent has said they will not go back to Saudi Arabia as well as they “can’t wait to get out of the company.” Some talent was upset that Vince left the country on his private jet and they were still stuck there. Superstars were said to have felt “deserted.
