UPDATE: As we previously reported here on eWn, CM Punk showed up at the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL on Monday afternoon prior to the RAW TV tapings. Punk was allowed in the backstage area and briefly met up with several talents.

In an update on the original report (see below), CM Punk spoke with The Miz for a short period of time and the two men “cleared the air” following some of their past issues. Several people who ran into CM Punk backstage were said to have “greeted him warmly.” The majority of talent on the current roster haven’t seen him since he departed WWE back in 2014.

The reports that CM Punk briefly met with Triple H have also been confirmed by multiple people who saw the interaction take place out in the open.

While not confirmed, it is said that WWE’s head of security, Jim Kelly, was the one who asked Punk to leave the venue. This decision was said to have come from Vince McMahon, who was phoning in creative rewrites throughout the day. Punk left the Allstate Arena without incident.

And finally, one WWE roster member believed this whole thing was a big publicity stunt to promote his AEW return. On the other hand, several people in AEW were reportedly in “disbelief” when the news surfaced online.

ORIGINAL: CM Punk was briefly backstage at tonight’s WWE RAW TV tapings in Chicago, IL.

According to a report from Pwinsider, Punk decided to visit the show due to the TV tapings taking place in his hometown.

As of this writing, there is no word on who CM Punk was specifically visiting. Multiple sources say Punk did briefly meet up with Triple H. The two men haven’t seen each other since Punk left WWE in 2014.

The report further states that Punk met with several WWE talents prior to being asked to leave the venue. One source said they were under the impression that the reason he was asked to leave is because he’s under contract to AEW. Another source said it was Vince McMahon’s call to have Punk leave the Allstate Arena. For what it’s worth, Vince isn’t backstage at the show but has been calling in creative edits throughout the course of the day.

Finally, it was added that after he was asked to leave, Punk immediately said his goodbyes to people and left the building without any issues.
