IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay has admitted that Kenny Omega does have a point with a recent comment about him being ‘shoehorned’ into a top spot.

Speaking in an interview with New Japan recently, Omega claimed that the British wrestler was shoehorned into the main event following the departure of names including himself and the Young Bucks.

Speaking to Fightful, Ospreay said Omega does have a point with his claim. He said,

“There’s something that Kenny said in a New Japan interview that I was ‘shoehorned’ into a position after he, the Bucks, and Cody left to form AEW.

“To an extent, he is right. I was happy being a Junior Heavyweight. I was super happy just doing that and during my Junior Heavyweight run, I finally realized I could put on some size and my training differentiated.

“It was only after he left and after we had that chat in the Tokyo Dome that my mind did start changing and I realized the power and ability that I do hold.”

Ospreay will defend the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Championship tomorrow at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17.

The match will mark Omega’s first NJPW match since 2019 when he lost the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi.
