Former WWE Superstar Ember Moon (Athena) has spoken out in various interviews since her release and has often talked about having to attend meetings in WWE where the women talent were told to “dress sexy”. During the latest episode of Chris Van Vliet’s “Insight” podcast, she said,
“We would have to sit through stupid meetings about how we’d have to dress sexy. I remember looking at someone else (and laughing).”
These meetings were presented to be “fashion consulting” and “fashion aid” based, with the appeal being that women in WWE (NXT, in this case) were to be presented as larger-than-life Superstars and should look the part. Fashion expert Melanie Pace was brought in to help conduct the meeting in October 2021.
One WWE NXT Superstar noted that before this, they were encouraged to wear their ring gear or merchandise t-shirts. Many people on the roster were not happy about these meetings. Some within the company pointed the finger at John Laurinaitis and blamed him for the meetings being held, as these meetings started to occur from the moment he came back into power with WWE behind the scenes. Fightful Select stated they cannot confirm that Laurinaitis had anything to do with these meetings.
Another WWE NXT Superstar said they were implied to “dress sexier” as an idea but it was never said out loud or made to be a mandatory change during those meetings. In general, several WWE Superstars refused to attend these meetings.
It was noted that this was one of the big changes to occur after Triple H stepped away due to his ongoing health issues. The talent said that they were encouraged to dress in a similar manner backstage, and were given pamphlets with examples of tops, heels, and similar attire.
