WWE has announced that Payback 2023, which took place at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA this past Saturday, became the most-watched and highest-grossing Payback event in history. The pay-per-view event delivered new records for viewership, gate and merchandise.
Viewership was up 36 percent versus the previous record set in 2016. There were 12,468 fans in attendance, which marked the largest gate ever for any Payback event, up 13 percent versus the prior record set in Chicago, IL in 2016. Payback also became the highest-grossing WWE event ever held in Pittsburgh.
Also, WWE Payback 2023 broke the all-time event merchandise record. Merchandise sales were up 182 percent versus the previous record set in 2017.
