Johnny Gargano Explains His WWE Return, Damian Priest Recalls Zombie Match With Miz

On a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Johnny Gargano discussed his return to WWE.

Gargano returned to WWE in 2022 after a nine-month hiatus from the promotion as he left to focus on starting a family with his wife Candice LeRae.

He said, “People ask me all the time, did you think about going to other places? Obviously, we all entertain the idea. But when I left, I always felt like I had unfinished business in WWE. And when the conversations were being had, it was one of those things where when I was a little kid growing up, I watched WWE. I dreamed of wrestling at WrestleMania. I dreamed of becoming the Intercontinental Champion. I think all these things I said in my return promo, pretty much. They’re all very real, very true. Those are very real dreams I still do have to this day, and I can only do that one place.”

In a recent appearance on the “Inside the Ropes” podcast, Damian Priest discussed his infamous zombie lumberjack match with The Miz and the negative reaction that followed.

The match took place at WrestleMania: Backlash 2021 as a tie-in to the movie “Army of the Dead.”

Priest said, I knew the feedback, what it was going to be. It’s hard when you do something different. You know, people are accustomed to one way, and some are open to change, but most aren’t, just in general what it is. For me personally, fighting zombies was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done. I’m a big zombie fan, like zombie movies and everything. I loved Army of the Dead, so for me, when I was fighting zombies, this was pretty cool. I know people disagree with me, but they weren’t in my shoes at the moment.”
