Match Predictions and Heat Index Anticipation Levels

Temperature Scale = Scorching > Hot > Lukewarm > Temperate > Chilly > Cold > Freezing

Heat Index is my assessment of how interesting the segment is, including how excited I am for the match and how intriguing the feud has been. The hotter, the better. Scorching translates to not being able to wait to see it, while Freezing means I couldn’t possibly care less and think it will be awful.

AEW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
“Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Adam Cole

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Adam Page wins.

Thoughts: This is a match that I wanted to see even before Cole went to AEW. I’m disappointed there wasn’t a better feud leading up to it, though, if I’m honest. Still, AEW has the ability to still pull me in with matches that haven’t been done before and little build, as they haven’t run everything into the ground like WWE. I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. This should be great, and I think Page will certainly retain.

FACE OF THE REVOLUTION LADDER MATCH:
Christian Cage or Ethan Page vs. Keith Lee vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Ricky Starks vs. Wardlow vs. TBD

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Wardlow wins.

Thoughts: Everyone in the match is talented, so this should be a lot of fun. Either it leads to likely a random title defense with Sammy Guevara against any of these guys, or it pushes the Wardlow TNT title story with MJF. Both scenarios, I’m cool with.

AEW WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. (c) vs. Thunder Rosa

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Britt Baker wins.

Thoughts: Admittedly, I’m not as excited about this as I originally thought I would be. This sort of felt like it was on hold and then randomly announced. I guess they’re just banking on the strength of everyone remembering how good their Lights Out match was and figured there isn’t any need for a storyline beyond that. Granted, that’s why I’m still Hot about it. I hope they pull off something as good or better. Unfortunately, I’m not anticipating that will be the case, but I’m willing to have higher expectations and be let down than to just be pessimistic and put this at Lukewarm. I had thought Rosa was the next in line, but now, I don’t feel that’s as much of a certainty.

AEW TBS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Jade Cargill (c) vs. Tay Conti

Heat Index = Temperate
Prediction: Jade Cargill wins.

Thoughts: Cargill has a lot of potential, but is still learning. Conti is night and day better from where she was in NXT. But I don’t think this match will be particularly amazing. It’ll be short and sweet, hopefully. Cargill definitely retains. I’d be extremely shocked if she dropped the belt.

DOG COLLAR MATCH:
CM Punk vs. MJF

Heat Index = Scorching
Prediction: MJF wins.

Thoughts: I’m still in awe of how great that MJF babyface promo was. While I’m not sold that a dog collar match is the way to go here, I’m very interested to see what ideas they’ve cooked up that brought about picking that gimmick. I’m hoping MJF wins, which may skew my prediction, but I’ll go with it regardless. It means more for him to win here than for Punk to balance the scales. If Punk wins, I’m totally cool with that, too.

THREE-WAY AEW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH:
Jurassic Express (c) vs. reDRagon vs. The Young Bucks

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Jurassic Express wins.

Thoughts: Maybe I’m overthinking things, but I feel like Jurassic Express should retain due to some lack of communication on the other two teams. The story here, for me, isn’t so much about either of them winning the belts, but about pushing that tension. Considering how great these teams are, I have no doubts this will be awesome, so I’m very high on it for the temperature gauge.

SINGLES MATCH:
Chris Jericho vs. Eddie Kingston

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Chris Jericho wins.

Thoughts: I’m of the belief Jericho is going to turn heel and this will be one of the points where that shift happens. Kingston should likely have this match won, only for Jericho to do something to offset that. I don’t think it’ll be the most amazing match on the card, but there’s potential for it to be a sleeper hit.

SINGLES MATCH:
Bryan Danielson vs. Jon Moxley

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Bryan Danielson wins.

Thoughts: This is a rather straightforward “Don’t you want to see what these two can do when they don’t have the WWE shackles on?” type of affair. And yes. Yes, I do. This is going to kick ass. Nuff said.

TORNADO TRIOS TAG TEAM MATCH:
The Andrade-Hardy Family Office (Andrade El Idolo, Matt Hardy and Isiah Kassidy) vs. Darby Allin, Sammy Guevara and Sting

Heat Index = Chilly
Prediction: Allin, Guevara and Sting win.

Thoughts: I couldn’t care less. The HFO has been awful and the addition of Andrade, who hasn’t fared as well in AEW as I had hoped, hasn’t made it much better. This is pretty random. It would have made more sense, to me, if it didn’t include Kassidy and Guevara. Then, though, I still wouldn’t have cared. Can we just skip to whatever the end of this whole storyline is?

BUY IN — SINGLES MATCH:
Kris Statlander vs. Leyla Hirsch

Heat Index = Cold
Prediction: Leyla Hirsch wins.

Thoughts: Unless Statlander is going to be built up as the next challenge for Jade Cargill, I’m imagining this is just a means to give Hirsch a win. The feud does nothing for me, so I’m not super excited about it, but I hope it’s good.

BUY IN — SINGLES MATCH:
Hook vs. QT Marshall

Heat Index = Temperate
Prediction: Hook wins.

Thoughts: The only reason this isn’t Chilly is because it’s interesting to watch Hook’s progression.

OVERALL PPV:
How excited am I for the event as a whole?

Heat Index = Hot

Thoughts: While I can already sense this is going to be exhausting and make me feel like it’s gone on too long and 3-4 of the matches should have been cut, the bulk of this card has serious potential to be amazing. It’s hard not to get excited, given AEW’s pretty damn good track record. As much as I don’t care about the Buy In matches, for instance, there’s 3 great fights for every 1 bad one, essentially. I’m down for a killer event, how about you?
