How Would You Upgrade Tribal Combat for SummerSlam? (Monday Morning Q&A)

Welcome back to another Monday Morning Q&A where I toss out some questions to get a feel of how you guys and gals are feeling about certain topics.

So here are 5 questions I’d like to toss out for this week. I’ll give my answers, too, but the key here is that I want to know what YOU think! So make sure you chime in!

1) If you could pick some extra rules to be added to the Tribal Combat match to spice it up more than a regular No Disqualification stipulation, what would you change?

At the very least, I would put them in some sort of cage-like structure. If this is supposed to be a combat scenario that determines the true tribal chief, then they should treat it like its something out of cultures that have the two warriors surrounded so they are confined. On top of that, we’ve seen far too many Roman Reigns matches end with outside interference. While this match doesn’t need a referee bump to have that happen like it does most of the time, I still do think Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso will end up getting involved and it will devolve into the same basic concept we’ve seen every few months.

Put them in a cage so that they have to settle this one-on-one, and it forces Roman Reigns to reassert his dominance as the true Tribal Chief. Then, we can move on past the Bloodline in-fighting.

2) Rey Mysterio vs. Santos Escobar. Who wins the invitational finals for a shot against Austin Theory?

I’m still surprised it isn’t LA Knight getting this title opportunity. Since that’s not the case, it feels like it HAS to be Escobar. Having him beat Rey Mysterio to effectively reposition himself as the one to watch out of the LWO makes more sense to me than having Mysterio continue to be the one on top. After all, he’s not the one that has to be invested in for the future. He’s already the established star who should be passing the torch. Mysterio can continue to be the elder statesman and the one leading the charge, but with Escobar as the guy groomed for the successor spot.

Escobar winning the title would be a good move, overall, I feel. LA Knight winning it would also be a step in the right direction. Austin Theory isn’t doing anything worthwhile with the belt in comparison to what either of those two could do, and Mysterio holding it would only be useful more so for who would beat him, and since I don’t want to see Escobar turn heel to do that, I think he should just outright win here over Rey.

3) Do you think any matches will be added to the card for NXT Great American Bash?

There are currently only four matches on the card as far as I’m aware, which means there’s at least room for one more, if not two or three depending on how they want to structure it. Lately, they’ve had more than the standard five, at least.

I would think the North American Championship would be on the line, but then again, they’ve been taking some detours there. Wes Lee against Mustafa Ali felt like the obvious direction and then wham, out of nowhere, Dominik Mysterio is the champion instead. That derailed all those obvious paths.

Maybe we get a Triple Threat with those three? Maybe the belt is defended by Mysterio against someone else entirely? Or maybe they want to bypass this and just throw another match on the card instead, like a Heritage Cup match or another non-title feud.

I definitely think at least one more match will be added, but since I’ve missed the past 2 episodes, I’m not working with a ton of information here. Even then, WWE has thrown a few curveballs that make me wonder if even they’ve figured out the full card before tomorrow night.

4) What would you say were the biggest highlights of ROH Death Before Dishonor?

Unfortunately, I’ve been out of the country the past 2 weeks and with a very unreliable internet connection. I was unable to watch the event in any capacity. However, reading the results, it honestly looks like almost nothing happened. The only title change was Aussie Open winning the tag titles, which I never felt like The Lucha Bros were meant to hold them for some record-breaking run to begin with.

I have no doubt some of the matches were probably quite fun to watch, but in a landscape where there is so much wrestling that is good and so much content in general, watching several more hours per week of “a series of good matches” doesn’t appeal to me anymore. They either have to be EXTREMELY good matches, or they have to serve some kind of purpose or have a proper storyline heading into them. Just telling me Samoa Joe is fighting Dalton Castle doesn’t warrant 15+ minutes of my time, for instance, so truthfully, I feel like I didn’t actually miss anything by not watching this. Maybe I’m wrong.

5) How do you want the friendship between MJF and Adam Cole to end?

Ultimately, it does have to end with them splitting and feuding. That’s the obvious thing. But assuming that’s the plan for All Out rather than All In, I think they could stretch this out just long enough to put them in a tag team match at All In and get both of those guys on the card in that capacity. That might be the best place for the break-up moment to happen so that there are a lot of eyes going crazy over the turn.
