TMZ is reporting that the family of Eddie “Hot Stuff” Gilbert feels that WWE is plastering his son’s image and likeness all over TV and other media platforms without permission.
Now, the family is suing WWE in court. Eddie’s dad, Tommy Gilbert, is in charge of the estate and made the decision to sue the promotion. He says that WWE never gave the family a dime for using footage of his son on the WWE Network.
Gilbert worked as a pro wrestling from 1979 through 1995. He died in 1995 after suffering a heart attack.
Keep in mind that his family is not suing WWE to stop WWE from using footage of Gilbert, but they just want a judge to force the WWE to fork over a share of its profits, plus damages. The WWE believes it has full clearance, according to TMZ.
According to a WWE rep that TMZ spoke with, they expect this lawsuit to be dismissed.
