Turning Roman Reigns Heel Maybe Best For Business

As we all know, Roman Reigns is being positioned to become the next mega star of the WWE. The creative team has seemingly made it a top priority to ensure that he “looks strong” on his way to the mountain top. Even though I am a fan of Roman, I strongly believe he should not win the Royal Rumble this year. Instead, I believe his coronation should not happen until Mania 32 after he first “embraces the hate”.

It can be argued that Triple H is one of the best heels that the wrestling business has ever seen. He possess an uncanny ability to make people despise him because of his arrogance. Even though Triple H has had success as a face, I think we can all agree that his best work came when he was the evil, arrogant sledgehammer swinging SOB that you couldn’t wait to see get his just due. In my honest opinion, Roman Reigns possess similar qualities that could potentially make him a truly despised superstar.

In one of his latest interviews, he referred to people who dislike him as “haters” because they never stepped in the ring or locked up. It’s safe to say that it rubbed fans the wrong way. And even though Roman is a face, that type of interview is a prime example of why he would make a great heel. It would be extremely easy to dislike him and his arrogance. The female demographic would love him but the male demographic would verbally tear him apart. Sound like anybody familiar?

John Cena, a man who’s name brings upon a polarizing response, has been the premier superstar for the past decade. Fans, including myself, have clamored that the WWE turns him heel and embrace the hate. I have accepted the fact that turning Cena heel will never happen, but turning Roman heel would be a great substitute. Roman already generates a polarizing mixed response.

There are people who say he’s limited in the ring and his promo skills are below average. The ladies and children love his superhero persona while guys, not all but some, have a disdain for his recent push to the moon. Allowing his true personality to be displayed could potentially and naturally turn him into the top guy. There are a plethora of faces he could feud with as well.

As long as he goes out and impresses in the ring, secures big victories before a WWE World Heavyweight Title run, it could be beneficial for his long-term career.
When The Rock made his debut, fans absolutely despised him. Who could ever forget “Die Rocky Die”? It seemed as if he would never achieve the super stardom that he has attained until he and the WWE brass allowed him to “embrace the hate”.

They allowed his brash, arrogant attitude to truly reveal itself on TV and the response was, well,  best for business. It became a lot easier for him to become a face afterwards because fans have accepted him and the possibility for Roman to achieve the same level of success is on the tip of Vince McMahon’s fingertips.

Since the Intercontinental Championship has lost some of it’s prestige over the years, why not give Roman a lengthy run with it since he’s on his way to mountain top anyway.  With so many faces in the WWE and the inevitable departure of Brock Lesnar after Wrestlemania 31, the company will need a dominant heel to take his place and that man could be The Powerhouse.

Some may agree and some may not and that’ okay. We all just want quality on our TV screens and not to be undermined. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to shoot. Thanks again for your time.
