Who Should Face Oba Femi In NXT North American Championship Open Challenge? | Question Of The Day

Welcome to another eWrestlingNews Question of the Day!

Tonight on WWE NXT, the North American Championship will be on the line as Oba Femi defends against an unknown opponent via an open challenge.

My question for you today is “Who do you want to see answer the challenge and face Oba Femi for the NXT North American Championship tonight?”

Remember to answer with your response in the comments below.

As far as my answer…

During this talent exchange with TNA Wrestling, I’m pretty much almost always going to suggest one of those guys will hop over in any scenario like this. Not only is it fun and exciting, but it fits with the open challenge concept, and it allows other in-house NXT Superstars to be future title contenders down the line. We don’t know when this partnership is going to end, so WWE should milk it for everything they can while it’s possible.

With that in mind, AJ Francis wanted a shot at the North American Championship. I can’t believe I’m suggesting Top Dolla of all people, but I think he might be a rather perfect choice for this role. He’s a big guy who will get a pop for the idea of being a crossover talent—perhaps the biggest pop he’ll ever get, all things considered—and he can easily lose with no problems. Hell, it could even be a squash.

If WWE and TNA aren’t interested in that concept, I’d consider Rhino as a major contender, too. Again, he’s a big guy, but he actually has some stock to him as a legend. It would mean far more for Oba Femi to beat Rhino than for him to take down AJ Francis. Plus, there’s no doubt in my mind it would be a better match, and if they’re interested in having this actually be competitive, I don’t know if there’s anyone on the TNA roster better suited for that who could still lose without it being a problem.

By that, I mean that I wouldn’t go so far as to put Moose against Oba Femi right now, or Josh Alexander, Hammerstone, or anyone else there’s actual investment in. Sure, technically, this could be anyone from TNA like Alan Angels or Kon, and it would suffice for a lot of what the buzz would be, but those two would be my top picks.

If WWE is limited to not using anyone in TNA, though, and we have to look at the NXT, Raw and SmackDown rosters, I’m still looking for someone outside of NXT’s home base, just for fun. When’s the last time we saw Shinsuke Nakamura? That would be interesting. I wouldn’t bet a dime on that happening, though. Apollo Crews could work, too.

In all likelihood, Femi is fighting someone from NXT, and if that’s the case, my nomination would be Je’Von Evans. The guy’s gotten over with the crowd very fast and they’ve been hyping him up as a future star even with some losses. I think this shows that they have faith in him being able to work on the long haul, rather than needing to be protected early on. That would allow for him to put up a good fight against Femi, but come up short, and show that he’s on his way toward a future title, but not just yet.
