On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Bully Ray addressed the return of Shawn Spears to WWE after what Ray felt was an underwhelming AEW run. He said,
“It was great to see Shawn Spears back … but when it comes to the misuse of talent in AEW, I can probably put Shawn Spears up in the top three names of guys that were just not used, mistakes were made … whatever you want to call it.”
Bully Ray added that Spears’ introduction and steel chair attack on Cody Rhodes was a strong start that AEW never really capitalized on. He added,
“They tried to repackage him with Tully, that didn’t really work. What went wrong with Shawn Spears and AEW?”
Spears returned to WWE on this week’s episode of WWE NXT with an attack on Ridge Holland. Spears used a steel chair in his attack, continuing his AEW gimmick.
