As we’ve been reporting here on eWn, eighteen wrestlers were released from WWE on Thursday.

WWE reportedly had creative plans in place for several of the talents, including Mia Yim, Karrion Kross and others.

According to a report from Fightful, WWE NXT Superstar Katrina Cortez was originally called up to the main roster in 2019 and was aligned with Sin Cara. Sin Cara noted that there weren’t any plans for the two other than putting over Andrade and Zelina Vega. Following the storyline, Sin Cara asked for his release when he was informed that any plans for his character were “dead”. Following Sin Cara’s release, Katrina was sent back to WWE NXT and there were “never any major plans for her.”

Karrion Kross and Keith Lee both recently revealed that the ideas for their main roster characters did not come from them. A source has confirmed that Kross’ look and Lee’s “Bearcat” nickname came directly from Vince McMahon.

As far as Scarlett is concerned, WWE officials were planning to have her be called up to either RAW or Smackdown as a wrestler, but those plans were “quickly sidelined.” While some people within the company pushed for her to be paired with Kross on the main roster, Vince McMahon and WWE’s creative team had other ideas. There were some rumors that there was backstage heat on Kross, but multiple people were still going to bat for him. WWE was actually planning to make another change to his character prior to his WWE release. With that being said, numerous sources are saying that WWE’s creative booking, not the characters, was the main problem.

WWE had “tentative” plans for Mia Yim to appear on either RAW or SmackDown before the draft. She quietly switched brands several times over the past year.
