Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite was notable for several reasons, as it included the debut of Jeff Jarrett and the returns of Katsuyori Shibata and Colt Cabana.
Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that having a newsworthy show was a deliberate strategy from AEW to help DVR ratings.
The reason is that AEW knew that the numbers for last night’s episode wouldn’t be great due to the show going head-to-head with the MLB World Series.
AEW wanted several surprises in order to convince people to check the show out later on DVR from word of mouth. This would increase the numbers overall, even if the overnights come in low.
