The Young Bucks made a surprise return on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite: Homecoming after Sting and Darby Allin beat Powerhouse Hobbs and Konosuke Takeshita in a Texas Tornado Tag Team Match.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that The Young Bucks, who had been absent from AEW since November, were originally planned for an even longer hiatus.
However, once Sting asked Matt and Nick Jackson to be his final opponents, they couldn’t decline.
Sting reportedly picked The Young Bucks because he enjoyed working with them at AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2022. That match had Sting, Darby, and Shingo Takagi vs. The Young Bucks and El Phantasmo.
Additionally, AEW President Tony Khan has been willing to give Sting a match with anyone he had access to.
The WCW legend reportedly has a “major say” in who his final opponents will be, and AEW will do anything he asks for a proper sendoff.
