WWE did not tape the full Backlash pay-per-view event on Sunday despite what some reports will say.
Instead, WWE only taped one match and that was Randy Orton vs. Edge in a singles match, according to Dave Meltzer.
The reason that WWE taped this contest in advance is to make sure it has ‘no kinks’ as they were attempting to do the absolute best match they could do. If there were any botched spots, WWE is able to edit those out despite having the two stars work the smartest match possible.
WWE has been hyping this contest as the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever.
