Chris Jericho has big aspirations for his ‘Painmaker’ character which he sees as an intergalactic former serial killer.
Ahead of his NJPW Dominion match with then-IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada in 2019, Jericho introduced the darker persona with the name a nod to Okada’s nickname ‘The Rainmaker.’
Appearing on ‘Howie Mandel Does Stuff,’ Jericho explained his Hollywood aspirations for the character.
“The idea is to make it into a movie at some point. That’s my overall goal. We’re just writing and illustrating the graphic novel now. So the idea is The Painmaker is an intergalactic former serial killer.
“He’s changed his life, and he’s not a serial killer anymore, but now he travels the galaxy hunting down other serial killers in different galaxies, different planets.”
Jericho compared the Painmaker’s conflicted morality to Dexter Morgan, the serial killer character of the hit series Dexter played by Michael C. Hall.
In his first reign as ROH World Champion, Jericho will defend his title next week at AEW’s Full Gear pay-per-view event.
