Cody Rhodes returned to WWE earlier this year, but the American Nightmare doesn’t seem too concerned with conformity.

WWE is notorious for their internal list of ‘banned terms,’ things that can’t be said by wrestlers, announcers, commentators, and analysts. Included on that list are such terms as ‘belt,’ ‘non-title,’ ‘wrestling,’ ‘kayfabe,’ ‘WWF,’ and ‘house show.’ This list gained notoriety after being circulated to promotional partners before WrestleMania 38 back in April.

During a recent San Diego Comic Con panel, Rhodes displayed a bit of levity when panelist Steve Ozer mentioned “title belts” being added to WWE figure two-packs. Ozer would later correct himself by saying “championship titles.”

Rhodes commented, “Buddy, you can say belts. If they fine me $1000 every time I say ‘belts,’ I’m fine with it. Belts. It can be a title belt, sure, it’s a championship. But it also physically goes around your waist. It’s a belt. So those are great belts [in the new Mattel figures].”

Rhodes used a few of the banned terms such as “wrestlers” and “championship belts” during an April edition of Monday Night RAW in a segment with The Miz. The Miz, ever the company man, was quick to correct Rhodes about his verbal mistake.
