Dominik Mysterio may be still using his father’s name, but wishes he had become Dominik Guerrero in 2005.
That year, fans were first introduced to Dominik as part of Rey Mysterio’s feud with Eddie Guerrero, in which Eddie revealed that he was Dominik’s biological father.
To settle this, Guerrero and Rey had a ladder match for the custody of Dominik, which the masked Superstar won.
While Dominik celebrated at the time, the Judgment Day member sees things much differently these days, as he told Wrestling Inc. He said,
“I feel like I’ve always been drawn to Eddie, whether it’s early 90s Eddie, WCW Eddie, or it’s ‘I’m your papi’ Eddie, and to me, any Eddie is the best Eddie and he’s just the top of the top to me.
“Anything I do is in his honor, man — the mullet, everything. So for me, yeah. He’s the man.”
When Dominik was asked if he wished Guerrero had won the infamous ladder match for custody, he said:
“Yeah, 100%. And I mean, WWE storyline, he is my dad. So, man. I would’ve loved to have gone home with Uncle Eddie at this point, right? I feel like we would’ve had a really good dynamic at home.”
Dominik added that he feels like Eddie and his father “planted that seed” that would lead to the younger Mysterio becoming a WWE Superstar.
