On Bishoff’s podcast, he talked to Court Bauer and called one time where he extremely disappointed Vince McMahon. This is what he had to say:

“I don’t think I’ve ever told this story before,” Bischoff said. “When you talk about Vince and understanding your value…just the power of his personality. He is a very unique personality. I really liked him. I wish I had gotten to work with him a little more closely and gotten to know him a little better than I did. There was a night, I don’t remember where it was or anything like that, in my role as the General Manager I was usually done before the last two segments. I very rarely ever closed out a show. I don’t remember where we were but I had like a three and a half or four hour drive to get to where I needed to be in order to catch a plane the next day. So I left. I snuck out the door.”

He went on to say, “I got to my hotel, I was in bed and I got a phone call. It was Vince. I don’t remember exactly what he said but it was like, ‘Hey Pal, where the hell are you?’ I said, ‘I’m in my hotel room. I’m in bed.’ He said, ‘Well guess what Pal? We needed you. I’m very disappointed in you. See you next week.’ That was the end of it. I felt so horrible. Evidently there was an injury at the end of the show and they were scrambling creatively and somebody said, ‘Go get Bischoff! He’s the General Manager! We can put a band-aid on this!’ They needed me and like an idiot I left an hour early or forty minutes early… whatever the hell it was. He didn’t yell. He didn’t swear at me. He wasn’t outwardly angry but it was like disappointing your dad. I just knew I had let him down. I felt so bad about that. From that point forward regardless of what the format would say, I could have not even be on the show, I would stand there in Gorilla Position during the last segment staring at the curtain just in case I was needed.”
