Finn Balor is confident that this year’s SummerSlam 2023 match with Seth Rollins will mark a new chapter in his career.

This year’s ‘biggest party of the summer’ will see Balor challenge Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship in a rematch from WWE Money in the Bank.

This match will come seven years after Balor defeated Rollins at SummerSlam 2016 to become the first Universal Champion, a title Finn vacated the next night due to injury.

Speaking with Sports Illustrated, Balor reflected on his journey back to the World Championship picture ahead of his match with Rollins. He said,

“I think that SummerSlam in 2016 is a microcosm of my whole career. I was a kid from a country that had no pro wrestling at all. My whole life I was told, over and over, that I couldn’t even be in the business. Then when I broke in, I was told every reason as to why I couldn’t be successful. Everyone was always putting obstacles in my way. I feel the injury at SummerSlam, which occurred moments into the [19-minute] match, was just another obstacle I needed to overcome. And that’s how I approached it. Adapt, overcome, and move forward.

“Seven years later, SummerSlam 2023 is not the end of the story. It’s the beginning of a new chapter.”

WWE SummerSlam 2023 will take place at Ford Field, in Detroit, Michigan on August 5.
