Has WWE Superstars Seen Its Days?

When WWE Superstars premiered on April 16th, 2009 on WGN, not since Sunday Night Heat or WWE Velocity has a wrestling show that gave wrestlers a chance to shine back then.

The premiere episode featured Cody Rhodes vs. Shane McMahon, Christian vs. Finlay, and Undertaker vs. Matt Hardy. Big names such as John Cena and Randy Orton have also competed on the show as well.

The original format featured a match (or two) that was taped prior to Monday Night RAW as well as a match (or two) that was taped prior to the SmackDown/ECW tapings.

Fast forward to today. WWE Superstars now features only two matches that were taped prior to RAW while the rest of the show consists of RAW recaps.

In addition, matches for WWE Superstars tend to feature the likes of Sin Cara, Justin Gabriel, Tyson Kidd, Los Matadores, Zack Ryder, or any WWE Diva who isn’t either A.J. Lee, Paige, or The Bella Twins. Even guys like Adam Rose, Bo Dallas, Heath Slater, and Titus O’Neil, who have appeared regularly on WWE Superstars in the past, have been prominently featured on RAW in recent weeks (particularly the ongoing feud between Rose and Slator Gator, which has involved Rose’s bunny mascot).

My suggestion: why not mix it up more and use more wrestlers (like for instance, Cesaro vs. Ryder or Paige vs. Emma) than using the same matchups every week. Or better yet, change the format by dropping the matches altogether for a newsmagazine-style show similar to NBA Inside Stuff.

At least, it’s better than seeing Emma vs. Alicia Fox every week.
