Heels That Should Be Babyfaces: Antonio Cesaro

Heels that should be babyfaces. Every once in a while we will take a look at some Superstars currently performing in WWE that are being used incorrectly. We are going to focus on the “good guy” and “bad guy” aspect of their packaging. Sometimes it will be a heel that should be a babyface, and sometimes it will be the opposite.

Today we are going to take a look at one-half of “The Real Americans” tag-team act: Antonio Cesaro.

Can anyone tell me what this guy is still doing working as a heel? He’s stuck in The Real Americans with a mouth-piece in the form of Zeb Colter, when in all actuality, he does not need someone to do the talking for him. Jack Swagger might, but Cesaro does not. Not only can Cesaro cut a promo in eight-thousand different languages, but he can do so in style.

The current World Heavyweight Champion of WWE, John Cena, has recently jumped aboard the Cesaro bandwagon. Cena put over Cesaro, and even presented him with the World Heavyweight Championship, during the current WWE European tour. He has yet to be the recipient of the “giant swing,” despite working with Cesaro on multiple occasions recently, but that’s a different story altogether.

You could make the argument that once the bell rings, Cesaro is as over as any babyface in the company. The anticipation of his “giant swing” spot is as over as any babyface spot during actual matches. The crowd loves it. His freakish strength is something that should be utilized in a babyface fashion. Being able to muscle around large guys like The Great Khali, Brodus Clay and several others is something a babyface should be doing. We’re not only talking about the swing, we’ve all seen Cesaro rag doll large guys in matches for years now. This is a character trait that would play right into a successful babyface. The fact that he has a move like the “giant swing” is only further evidence that his tool kit is one that should belong to a babyface performer.

Antonio Cesaro has what it takes to work as a top “good guy” in pro wrestling today. WWE realizes this. John Cena even knows it. The only concern I have is that WWE capitalizes on this before it’s too late. There’s only so many times you can swing a guy around in circles before the “WWE Universe” grows tired of it. The time is now. Hopefully WWE is aware of this and capitalizes on the momentum Cesaro has going for him before the fans being yawning and waiting to see what’s next.
