Tarzan Goto, the Japanese star best known for his work with Atushi Onita’s FMW promotion, has passed away at 58 years old. Goto passed on May 29th due to liver cancer.

Goto, originally a sumo wrestler, would go on to make a name for himself after transitioning to professional wrestling in 1981, participating in the first-ever no ropes exploding barbed wire cage match against Onita.

Mr. Gassouke, who was trained by Goto at the FMW dojo, had this to say:

“I still can’t believe it, and I can’t really feel it. Thanks to Mr. Goto’s strict teaching, what I’ve been able to do for many years is a fortune. I’m just grateful. I pray for [his] soul.”

Goto leaves behind three children. We send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Goto.
