One of Japan’s biggest wrestling legends has been seriously injured.

According to a report from BBM Sports, Shinjiro Otani was hospitalized and stretchered out of the ring following a very serious injury at the Pro Wrestling ZERO1 event on Sunday. This happened during the main event of the show, as Otani was battling Takashi Sugira for the ZERO1 World Heavyweight Title. Otani was on the receiving end of a German Suplex into the turnbuckle and landed horribly wrong. Otani was motionless and unable to move his body. The match was immediately stopped by the referee.

In a statement to Tokyo Sports on behalf of the referee in charge of the match, Katsumi Sasazaki stated the following:

“He was conscious. He could hear [his own] voice and he could clearly see where he was. However, he complained that he couldn’t move his hands and that he couldn’t move, and he said, ‘I can’t feel my hands.’”

Judging by his injury, it seems as though Otani may have suffered damage to his cervical spine.

On behalf of everyone here at eWrestlingNews.com, we would like to send out our best wishes to Shinjiro Otani for a full and speedy recovery.
