NWA World Heavyweight Champion Matt Cardona has said he will change the “old and dated and boring” promotion.
Cardona won the title from Trevor Murdoch at the NWA PowerrrTrip tapings in Oak Grove, Kentucky on Saturday, February 12.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, the former WWE Superstar laid out his plans as champion, saying:
“This is my opportunity to be the top guy. But just because I’m in this position doesn’t mean I’m going to sugarcoat how I feel. When I was a kid growing up, I thought the NWA was old, dated, and boring. I was a WWF fan. Now it’s 30 years later and I still think the NWA is old and dated and boring. I’m here to save the place, even if I’m getting booed for it.”
Cardona was released by WWE in 2020 and has been one of the most successful stars outside the company in recent years.
In addition to being NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Cardona is also Impact Wrestling Digital Media Champion and previously held the GCW World Title.
