As we previously reported here on eWn, Pat McAfee made his return to WWE’s commentary table at last night’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. According to a report from Pwinsider, McAfee’s return was a very closely-guarded secret. Even Michael Cole and Corey Graves were kept in the dark, so their surprise reactions during the broadcast were genuine.
WWE production assistants scrambled to get a chair and a headset for McAfee so he could join Cole and Graves. There is no word on whether or not his appearance was a one-off for the Rumble, or if this means a return to the weekly SmackDown commentary team.
McAfee stepped away from WWE to be a part of ESPN’s College GameDay crew. Those responsibilities have concluded, freeing McAfee for a WWE return.
