A new WWE World Heavyweight Champion will be crowned on May 27 at the WWE Night of Champions 2023 pay-per-view event in Saudi Arabia.
On Monday’s episode of RAW, there were two triple threat matches. The winners of those matches worked a singles match later in the night, which ended up being Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins, with the winner advancing to Night of Champions 2023. Rollins advanced to the finals. WWE will do the same on Friday’s episode of SmackDown.
Dave Meltzer noted that the reason why WWE is using SmackDown talent in the RAW tournament is to help boost ratings when going up against strong NBA playoff competition.
Additionally, AEW booked the Kenny Omega vs. Jon Moxley Steel Cage match for Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite for the same reason.
