Sukeban, the upstart Japanese women’s wrestling promotion, is drawing significant interest from investors and is aiming to sign new talent.
Sukeban held its second show last month in Miami, and Pwinsider is reporting that there have been investors in the country who have approached the company due to the positive response the promotion has received from mainstream outlets alongside the social media engagement.
Sukeban’s attention from the likes of The New York Times, Vogue, and other major outlets has been attractive to investors.
Additionally, Sukeban’s unique approach to its production such as costumes, makeup, the Championship Title design, and more has drawn major attention since they have been designed or created by renowned personalities in the art and fashion world.
Sukeban has received praise for “reinventing” the live event experience and providing a bridge between Joshi and Japanese culture with mainstream attention in the United States.
There is currently no word on the kind of capital Sukeban is trying to raise. The promotion is reportedly hoping to sign additional wrestlers and is keeping an eye on which talents may become available in the coming weeks.
Sukeban will host its third event in Los Angeles, and there have been talks of a return to New York City.
