‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin wasn’t “overwhelmingly enthusiastic” about returning to WWE at first, according to Jim Ross.

This week, Austin confirmed he’ll be at WrestleMania to confront Kevin Owens after weeks of the Prizefighter insulting Texas.

Despite initial reports of Austin wrestling in April the plan is for the Rattlesnake to confront Owens during a special edition of the KO Show.

Speaking on Grillin’ Jr, the AEW commentator said that Austin wasn’t thrilled at first about the idea of being at WrestleMania:

It looks like Austin is not going to do anything at WrestleMania as far as wrestling in the ring. He and I have talked, but at the time we talked, he didn’t know what he was going to do and he didn’t sound overwhelmingly enthusiastic about it.”

“If he was going to wrestle at WrestleMania, and this is just me talking, I would suggest that it should have been decided six months ago, not only to build a story to that crescendo in Dallas at WrestleMania, but to give him time to train better and have more peace of mind. You know he’s going to handpick his opponent.”

Austin last competed at WrestleMania 19 in 2003, where he lost to The Rock.

WrestleMania 38 will happen on April 2-3 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
