Top Ten Wrestling Ring Entrances (Pt. 1)

Pro wrestling is a show. We all know this. One major part of the “show” is the ring entrance. For years, professional wrestling has provided plenty of adrenaline and excitement through their elaborate Superstar ring entrances. Sometimes it’s the music. Other times it’s the pyro. Every once in a while, the perfect combination comes together to create an exciting entrance that serves as act one in a professional wrestler’s complete performance.

Today we are going to start a countdown of the best pro wrestling entrances of all-time. It should be noted that we are talking about general entrances, not event-specific entrances. For example, Shawn Michaels gliding down the arena at WrestleMania for his “Iron Man” match with Bret Hart is not up for inclusion. That was a one-time thing. The same goes for his “god-like” entrance for his WrestleMania match at Undertaker. We are going to look at the best regular ring entrances in wrestling history.

First up are numbers ten through six, while the top five pro wrestling entrances in history will be revealed on Saturday. Enjoy!

#10. Goldust

The lights dim, the sharp gold lights come on and little gold flakes begin to fly as Dustin Runnels, under his “Goldust” character, along with manager Marlena (Terri Runnels) accompanies one of the oddest personalities to the ring as we see movie-style slow-motion visual effects. They hit the ring, Marlena helps Goldust remove his long blond wig and elaborate robe, and off we go. We will never forget the name, nor the ring entrance of ….*deep breath* ..Goldust.

#9. Chris Jericho

The countdown appears on the titantron. 10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1….off we go. We spiral through some sharp-colored graphics until we hit the city and bam, “JERICHO” flashes across the screen. Out comes the Ayatollah of Rock-n-Rolla himself, facing the camera backwards with his mighty arms stretched out to his sides. He turns around, and we see one of the most entertaining personalities of the Attitude Era, Chris Jericho. Jericho’s “Y2J” ring entrance comes in at number nine.

#8. New Age Outlaws

“Oh, you didn’t know? …Your ass better call some body!” The Road Dogg echo’s those famous words and comes out with a mic-in-hand alongside his tag-team partner and fellow D-Generation X member “Bad Ass” Billy Gunn. He performs a freestyle rant as he and Gunn walk to the ring, and then part two of their entrance begins. The two hit the ring, and inform us that “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages…D-Generation X proudly brings to you, its’ WWE Tag-Team Champions of the world…The Road Dogg Jesse James, The Bad Ass Billy Gunn, the New …Age ..Outlaws!” Gunn then informs us that “if you’re not down with that, we’ve got two words for ya….” You know the rest. The New Age Outlaws come in at number eight.

#7. Ultimate Warrior

Sometimes you don’t need anything over-the-top and fancy to have a memorable or effective entrance. Sometimes its’ sheer adrenaline and excitement conveyed by the performer. Number seven on our list fits that description. One of the most famous and memorable entrance themes hits the big speakers in the arena and like a bat out of hell, Ultimate Warrior sprints to the ring. He jumps up on the apron, runs to each side of the ring, and begins violently shaking the ropes as if they had said something about his momma. The Ultimate Warrior comes in on our list at number seven.

#6. D-Generation X

“Are you ready?” Sometimes a really cool ring entrance is hard to capture with words. D-Generation X, in any variation of the group, always had one of the coolest ring entrances in wrestling history. Their infamous music would hit and out they would come with clips of their past highlights showing, mixed in with actual live footage of their walk to the ring. Triple H would hit the ring, grab the mic and do his best Michael Buffer imitation. “Are you ready? No, I said…are….you….READY?! Then, for the thousands in attendance and the millions watching at home….let’s get ready to …” Once again, you know the rest. D-X concludes the first-half of our look at the best ring entrances in wrestling history.
