Wade Barrett was at the commentator’s desk for WWE SmackDown on Friday night in Washington, DC, and the former Intercontinental Champion is willing to rekindle an old feud with soccer star Wayne Rooney.
During his run as King Barrett, the British Superstar began a social media war with Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. The two eventually came face to face on WWE RAW in 2015. As Rooney sat in the front row of the arena, Barrett taunted him, describing himself as “championship material,” unlike Wazza and the Manchester United squad at that point in time. This upset the English forward, so when Barrett approached the barricade, Rooney silenced him with a tight slap.
In an interview with Metro UK, Barrett reflected on the segment, stating that he is willing to settle his unfinished business with Rooney.

On his willingness to revisit the issue with Rooney: “So, if he fancies turning up, come along Wayne and maybe we can get to some unfinished business between the two of us!”
On the impact their previous confrontation has sustained with fans: “It’s such a silly little thing, you don’t go into a career to do things like that. That’s never the aim when you become a wrestler with WWE, but that’s one of those silly little things that people will always remember. People love talking to me about that time I got slapped by Wayne Rooney!”
