William Regal was still being paid by WWE even after he debuted for AEW at this year’s Revolution pay-per-view event.

Regal was released from his roles with NXT in January of this year after over two decades with WWE, and would form the Blackpool Combat Club in AEW.

In an interview with Regal at ITR Live, the former NXT General Manager said that Vince McMahon agreed to pay the remainder of his contract after his release. He said,

“Mr. McMahon was very good to me, to the point of, I will say this because whatever he’s going through, he was excellent to me. I had a talent contract, as well as an employee contract, and it didn’t run out until the end of April because I played William Regal.

“I started for AEW on the seventh of March. I didn’t call anybody else, I sent a message straight to the boss, ‘Hey Boss, I’ve got this thing with Bryan,’ and he loves Bryan as well. ‘Absolutely, you go’ and still paid me until the end of my talent contract. I was the only person who ever got paid by both companies at the same time.”

Regal recently finished up with AEW after being granted his requested release from the promotion.

The British wrestling veteran is expected to return to WWE next month to be closer to his son, NXT Superstar Charlie Dempsey.
