Yutaka Yoshie, an AJPW wrestler who died mere hours after what’d be his final match, did not die due to wrestling, an inquest has learned.

Yoshie passed away on March 10 following a match and was rushed to a hospital in Takasaki City after what would be his last performance.

Tokyo Sports is now reporting that Yoshie, a seasoned veteran, died of arteriosclerosis, a disease characterized by the narrowing of the arteries.

A statement from his family translated into English reads,

“It was not caused by a professional wrestling match, so please don’t worry about it.”

In addition to AJPW, Yoshie also competed for New Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling NOAH. He was a former AJPW and IWGP World Tag Team Champion.

Our thoughts remain with Yoshie’s friends, family, and colleagues at this sad time.
