Shelton Benjamin still has his sights set on becoming a World Champion before he calls it a career.
Speaking during a recent interview with The Daily Star, the former WWE Superstar expressed his desire to capture a big time title. He said,
“To me, that’s why I’m in the business. You want to be the best and be at the top. I’ve read so many different rumors where people are giving their opinion or thoughts. The one that really bugs me is I was ‘happy to just be a guy in the back’ and ‘happy to just be on the roster.’ Bulls**t.”
He continued, “My goal, when I got there, was to be a tag team champion. Once I achieved that, my goal was, ‘I want to be a world champion.’ Once I started proving to myself and to the world that I can hang with the best in the world, my expectations and goals were always centered around being world champion. I wish people would stop printing or saying otherwise because I’ve never been complacent as far as wanting to be the top guy.”
Austin Theory was a recent guest on the “Battleground” podcast to discuss a variety of topics, including his thoughts on some recent praise from Randy Orton.
Additionally, Theory commented on Orton and Kevin Owens potentially chasing the WWE Tag Team Championships at some point in the future.

On being praised by Randy Orton: “Well, I know a thing about killing legends myself. It’s Randy Orton. I mean, what has Randy Orton not done in WWE? A 14-time WWE Champion, a man with just a crazy resume and somebody that everyone in the locker room well respects. Anytime you get words like that from Randy Orton, you better make sure you’re working and you’re pushing yourself because he ain’t wrong about anything he said. He’s speaking the truth, and it is on my end to hold up that end. I appreciate what Randy said and this is just where my mentality is.”
On Orton and Kevin Owens potentially chasing WWE Tag Team Championships: “Coming down the road, if Randy’s there, I won’t have any sympathy, though. Because, these Tag Team Championships — I know he likes running around with Kevin Owens, if they decide to come our way, Just remember Randy what you said. Remember all those things you said. Because you said you weren’t where you were at when you were my age. So just remember that.”
