- AEW International Championship Match: Jon Moxley defeated Orange Cassidy (c) by pinfall to win the title!
Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:
Zero Hour (3 Matches)
- Tony Nese started the match by doing push ups in the ring and was promptly tossed out by a bunch of people.
- Since this battle royal is for charity, I’m assuming a babyface will win. Likely Adam Page as Hangman is the biggest name in this. But they might go for a surprise and give it to someone lower on the totem pole like Action Andretti for a spotlight. Let’s see.
- Serpentico is out.
- Shawn Spears and Daniel Garcia are having a pose-off (the “10” hand signal and Garcia’s dancing). Funny little moment.
- Spears is eliminated by Aussie Open.
- Komander is gone from Mogul Embassy.
- Dalton Castle is saved by The Boys catching him. The Boys then catch Angelo Parker, but place him on the floor for an elimination. Dalton Castle is quickly eliminated after that by Brian Cage.
- Darius Martin is gone via I think Matt Menard.
- Chuck Taylor is tossed out by Toa Liona.
- Bishop Kaun is taken out by Hangman.
- Matt Menard is gone. Jake Hager is out, too.
- Trent and Hangman team up to take out Mark Davis.
- Daniel Garcia is gone from Scorpio Sky to a chorus of boos.
- Scorpio Sky is out.
- We’re down to six. Andretti, Kyle Fletcher, Brian Cage, Toa Liona, Hangman and Trent. The crowd’s firmly behind Page, chanting “cowboy shit”.
- Andretti is out after eating a kick from Fletcher. Not too long after, Fletcher is taken out by Trent.
- Trent is out by Liona and Cage, who are left with Hangman.
- Page takes out Liona. Cage is then eliminated after a Deadeye on the apron. Page is your winner. Fun match.
- Not much to talk about in the women’s trios match. I forgot Skye Blue is from Chicago. It makes sense now why she got the pin.
- Dennis Rodman’s big contribution in the trios title match was hitting Satnam Singh with the guitar.
ROH World Tag Team Championship Match: Better Than You Bay Bay (Adam Cole and MJF) (c) vs. The Dark Order (Alex Reynolds and John Silver)
- I still think this should have been The Kingdom challenging for the titles. Or maybe Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara. I like Dark Order, and I think they might even win, but this card is odd.
- MJF is getting the crowd to chant “Sportsmanship!” After Reynolds is willing to accept the handshake, MJF pokes him in the eyes and poses.
- Reynolds hit MJF in the back with a chair. MJF is being checked on by officials. He’s being taken out of the match to the back. Cole is on his own now.
- Dark Order is working pure heel here, even with Evil Uno attacking Cole on the outside while the referee was distracted.
- Silver and Reynolds give Cole a double smooch and a double clothesline, but only get a two-count.
- Reynolds has the title belt and wants to use it, but Cole kicks him instead.
- MJF makes his triumphant return to the ring and gets a hot tag. What a babyface.
- Double noggin knocker to Silver and Reynolds. MJF is hulking up AND channeling Ultimate Warrior by shaking the ropes.
- He calls for the double clothesline and it connects. Cole pins Reynolds to retain.
- Fun segment. I love this whole babyface gimmick for MJF.
As MJF and Cole were still going up the ramp, Samoa Joe made his entrance and pushed MJF to the side. MJF then went after Joe, who put Max in a guillotine chokehold until security and officials separated them. “Let them fight” chants break out.
ROH World Television Championship Match: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Shane Taylor
- Joe is so good. It’s such a crime he didn’t win a world title in WWE. I don’t know how they screwed up his push for so many years like that.
- This has mostly been a Joe-centric match.
- Oh wow. Yeah. This was dominated by Joe. He wins with a Coquina Clutch.
- I’ll repeat what I said before about how Joe should’ve had a more important opponent to boost this card.
AEW TNT Championship Match: Luchasaurus (c) (with Christian Cage) vs. Darby Allin
- Man, I really hope Christian retains the title here. I mean…Luchasaurus.
- Darby Allin’s taped up back is the focus of this match. Luchasaurus is working on that quite a bit.
- Allin’s now bleeding from the forehead, I believe. I’m not sure what caught him.
- Nick Wayne and Christian Cage are arguing ringside. Allin dives to take out Christian.
- Avalanche Code Red for a very close two-count. No new champion yet.
- Cage threatened Wayne with a con-chair-to. That distraction helps turn things around.
- Luchasaurus followed two tombstones with a lariat to the back of the head to retain.
- Now, Nick Wayne’s being held back as Christian is about to con-chair-to Darby. A few members of the locker room (Best Friends, Shawn Spears, I believe Action Andretti) came out to run Cage and Luchasaurus off before he could follow through with it.
Miro vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
- As Big E would say, “two big meaty men slapping meat.”
- Oh hey, Excalibur just quoted that, too. Ha!
- That’s pretty much what this match is, which isn’t a surprise. They’re big brutes laying into each other. I’d like to see them both against Gunther at some point.
- “Meat forever” chant!
- Hobbs kicks out after a kick, but it’s game over time. Miro locks in his Accolade, but Hobbs stands up and breaks out. He hits a spinebuster for a very close two-count.
- Game Over attempt #2 is successful and Miro is victorious by submission.
- Hobbs offers a handshake after the match. Miro accepts. But once Miro turns his back, Hobbs goes after him. He starts choking Miro, but then, CJ Perry appears! She runs down to the ring, grabs a chair and hits Hobbs in the back. He no-sells it and grabs it from her. Miro gets to his feet, grabs the chair and takes out Hobbs. As the fans chant what I think is “kiss that meat”, Miro looks upset and walks away without CJ, strangely.
AEW TBS Championship Match: Kris Statlander (c) vs. Ruby Soho
- They’re really harping a lot on how Statlander hasn’t beaten Soho in singles action yet. All the more reason why I imagine she’s retaining here.
- Definitely a handful of close near-falls here. And lots of Saraya shouting at ringside.
- Ruby grabbed the spray, but Toni Storm popped up from under the ring and stole it from her for whatever reason. That led to a distraction that Statlander capitalized on, hitting her finisher for the win.
Strap Match: Ricky Starks vs. Bryan Danielson
- Final Countdown is back! One of my favorite songs of all time. Love it.
- Starks jumped Danielson before getting the strap fastened around him and then assaulted The American Dragon with his weight belt. Now, Danielson is bleeding.
- Typical strap match affair going on with them whipping each other and such. This crowd’s digging it a lot and really just loves cheering for Danielson. As good of a heel as he is, it’s hard not to root for him, right?
- Starks is bleeding from his forehead now, too.
- A back-and-forth of whips was won by Starks, but Danielson hulks up and gets back on top for more whips and his trademark kicks.
- Big Bill is now out to interfere and attack Danielson. Ricky Steamboat pulls him off the apron. Starks goes crashing into Bill on the outside and Danielson jumps on top of both of them after that.
- Starks with a spear for a two-count.
- Busaiku Knee, but that’s not the end of this match. Danielson’s going to kick Ricky’s f*in head in. A series of stomps eventually leads to Danielson wrapping the strap around Ricky’s neck for a LeBell Lock. Starks passes out and Danielson wins.
- Naturally, another thumbs up. Very good match.
Eddie Kingston and Katsuyori Shibata vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta)
- After the last few matches had babyface winners, maybe I’m wrong here in my prediction that Kingston and Shibata would win to set up Kingston vs. Claudio for Grand Slam. Maybe Yuta gets the win on Shibata to set up that rematch instead.
- I’ve got nothing to say about this match. It’s just been a decent match with nothing that stood out except one strike from Shibata that made Nigel McGuinness say “I don’t want to wrestle anymore” and “He hit him in the back of the head, but the front of his face got in the way.”
- Blackpool Combat Club is indeed victorious, but Castagnoli got the pin on Kingston after an uppercut. It happened in such a way that the crowd wasn’t prepared and instead of being shocked, it had more of a dud vibe.
Kenny Omega vs. Konosuke Takeshita (with Don Callis)
- Takeshita is overall in control so far in this match. He’ll end up looking strong here even if he loses.
- I’m fully into the time of the night where I’m so overloaded with wrestling from how long this has been on top of Payback, SmackDown and everything else going back to even All In, that I’m feeling antsy for the event to end, even though the action happening here is fun. I just can’t get as much into it as I know I would be able to if I wasn’t so tired.
- Take the Zero Hour off this card, trim some time from some of the other matches, and if this bout was happening 45 minutes or an hour ago, I would be talking about how great it is. Because it really is good, but as I said, I’m SO burned out right now.
- Nice avalanche Blue Thunder Bomb from Takeshita. It doesn’t get the job done.
- Don Callis almost stabbed Omega with a screwdriver. Soon after that, Takeshita almost used it on Omega, but the ref saw it and took it away.
- After a good sequence that ended with a wheelbarrow German suplex type slam, not too long after that, Takeshita gets the win by pinfall from a knee strike sans pad.
Eight-Man Tag Team Match: Bullet Club Gold (Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn, Jay White, and Juice Robinson) vs. FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) and The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson)
- The Young Bucks are getting hounded by the crowd.
- Every time Matt or Nick Jackson tags in, they’re booed. It’s equal parts fun and distracting from the match in a bad way.
- Everything is getting crazy. Too much going on to type it all out, but this is great.
- I’m loving the teamwork between FTR and The Young Bucks, even playing into each other’s moves and showing they can be a good team. This is great stuff.
- Frenetic and fun. Hell of a match going on.
- Wooow, Colten Gunn gets the pin on Cash Wheeler after a Blade Runner from Jay White. Great match.
AEW International Championship Match: Orange Cassidy (c) or Jon Moxley
- I can’t tell if the crowd is a little more pro-Cassidy, or just so excited that they’re cheering both equally. It’s close.
- “I’m a fan of Orange Cassidy and I don’t have a sign idea” is a great sign.
- “Let’s go Moxley” versus “Freshly Squeezed” chant solves my confusion. It’s a split, pro-both crowd.
- Jeeeez Orange is bleeding a lot. Usually, that’s Moxley’s job.
- Lots of “blood orange” jokes, I see. Nice. I love me some puns.
- Moxley has exposed the cement on the outside. No attempt whatsoever to adhere to the 10-count on the outside between these two. Cassidy counters and gives Mox a Beach Break to the floor.
- Orange Punch. Make that two. The third is met with a cutter from Moxley, though. Mox goes for an underhook and Cassidy hits another Orange Punch followed by a spear for a two-count.
- OC does his trademark low-impact kicks, but then starts getting fired up and kicking Moxley for real. Nice.
- Death Rider from Moxley. Cassidy JUST BARELY rolls his shoulder up in the most.
- A little after that, and after giving Moxley the middle finger, another Death Rider seals the deal for Moxley, our new international champion. Great match.
