Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

Countdown to WrestleMania was a fun enough 2 hours for it being, you know, a pre-show. There’s a special air going on right now. I’m feeling it. Are you? This could really be the start of a new era, as they’re touting.

Oh hey, speaking of which, we have a new intro. Nice!

Triple H is starting off the show (after the Meek Mill intro). “Welcome to a new time. Welcome to a new era. Welcome to WrestleMania!”

Women’s World Championship Match: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Becky Lynch

  • Becky Lynch’s intro has excerpts from her book. I don’t know what her outfit is supposed to be inspired by, but it’s…something.
  • Rhea Ripley’s got a band (sorry, not sure who they are) playing her entrance music. This crowd seems like they’re more pro-Rhea than pro-Becky.
  • Manhandle Slam isn’t able to get the three-count at the 7:30 mark.
  • Riptide also gets a two-count to even things up between them.
  • Electric Chair spot to the outside was good.
  • An attempt at a Manhandle Slam from the second rope is blocked. Ripley hits another Riptide and gets the win!

Six-Pack Challenge Ladder Match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship

  • DIY has a full D-Generation X type entrance (minus the song). Their ring gear looks like Shawn Michaels and Triple H, their new merch is inspired by an old DX shirt design, etc. Pretty cool.
  • Awesome Truth got only 2 or 3 lines of their rap for their entrance. That was kind of awkward.
  • Neat masks for Priest and Balor.
  • Tyler Bate does his airplane spin to Balor, who is holding a ladder. That’s a nice little twist.
  • Double moonsault from the ladders on the outside from New Catch Republic. That’s their big spot, I’d assume.
  • Hahaha, R-Truth is waiting on the ropes for someone to tag him in. Good thing The Miz could reach him.
  • Now he’s going for a pinfall. R-Truth is a national treasure.
  • Theory and Waller have grabbed the SmackDown tag titles, but not the Raw ones yet.
  • Waller gets tossed by New Catch Republic through a ladder to the outside while Theory is taken care of by The New Day.
  • Kofi with a trust fall off the ladder to the outside.
  • Gargano takes Dunne out with a DDT through the table. Ciampa takes out Bate, crashing from the ladder to the floor.
  • JD McDonagh is out to try to help The Judgment Day. He’s got to be taking some punishment soon, right?
  • After I type that, he gets tilted to go crash through 2 tables to the outside. Nice.
  • R-Truth gets his big moment by capturing the Raw tag titles!
  • This also means we finally have the tag titles split again!! YESSSS!!

There’s a momentary tribute to Bray Wyatt with the fireflies in the crowd.

Then, Jordan Burroughs is announced to be in the crowd.

Andrade & Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio & Santos Escobar

  • Cool ring gear for mostly everyone involved in this. Carlito just has a shirt. But then again, I’m assuming he’s turning heel here, so that’s his big moment, rather than anything about his attire.
  • I haven’t mentioned this yet, but even though the advertisements are still annoying (both commercials and the stuff ringside), I haven’t been noticing as many of them except the Prime logo in the ring. Even that’s not as bad as it was before. I still would rather that not be the case, and for the turnbuckles to also just be the WWE logo, but it could’ve been worse.
  • Zelina Vega moonsaults out there and everyone starts crashing into each other. This culminates with Joaquin Wilde being slingshotted into Angel and Berto.
  • Two guys in masks came out from ringside and tossed Dominik into the post, then back into the ring.
  • Rey scores the pin for his team over Escobar. Clearly, I was wrong about Carlito turning here.
  • The two masked guys are Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson.

Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso

  • Lil Wayne is there for Jey Uso’s entrance, but not singing Jey’s song, just doing some filler ad libs. It’s WrestleMania season. You know how the celebrities come out in droves.
  • Nothing special for Jimmy Uso.
  • Instead of the “boo/yay” back and forth chants for punches, we’re getting “yeet / no yeet” which is great.
  • Uh oh. Jey stops in his tracks when he’s about to superkick Jimmy, but Jimmy held up his hands. That hesitation can cost him.
  • Jimmy’s pleading that he’s sorry with Jey. Jey helps him up, only to eat a superkick from Jimmy for his efforts.
  • Jimmy hits a splash, but only gets a two-count.
  • Jey hits a spear to retaliate. He follows it up with a splash of his own and gets the win.

Six-Woman Tag Team Match: Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill & Naomi vs. Damage CTRL (Asuka, Dakota Kai & Kairi Sane)

  • Some geishas are here for Damage CTRL’s entrance, tossing flowers for them.
  • Jade, Naomi and Bianca get a special entrance of a podium descending and a good spotlight and whatnot. Not an all-timer entrance, but still special.
  • Not too much to talk about, to be honest.
  • Asuka’s mist unintentionally went into Kairi’s face, which doesn’t sound good for Damage CTRL’s chances (as if anyone had them winning)
  • Once Jade Cargill got into the ring, she got to do a few maneuvers and ultimately get the win for her team over Dakota. It did its job, but it was certainly a filler match in the grand scheme of things.

Backstage, Sami Zayn is getting hyped up by his wife and son, then Chad Gable, who says he wants Sami to go out there alone tonight, and reminds him that he owes him one. Kevin Owens is at the curtain waiting for Zayn to get him pumped up, too.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Gunther (c) vs. Sami Zayn

  • I’m rooting for Gunther. What about you? Leave those comments!
  • Gunther gets a powerbomb, but Sami kicks out.
  • Sami gets a surprise Helluva Kick, but it’s not enough.
  • Strangely, two powerbombs from Gunther after that aren’t enough to keep Zayn down, either. Too much fight in him.
  • Those beats are repeated a bit more, with Sami just not giving up, hitting another Helluva Kick, followed by a Brainbuster on the second turnbuckle (which looked gnarly).
  • A third Helluva Kick is followed by a fourth, and we have a new intercontinental champion.
  • I gotta say, this isn’t how I wanted Gunther’s title reign to end. It’s fine enough, but I still think something better could have happened, and that this won’t end up doing as much for Sami as a lot of people think it will be. But I’m more than willing to be wrong if they prove me wrong. We’ll see.

Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis thank everyone for being there tonight and announce 72,543 people in attendance.

George Kittle, Vanessa Hudgens, Wale, Druski and more are in attendance.

Roman Reigns and The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins

  • Cody is out first. He gives his mom a hug and hands his weight belt to his father-in-law.
  • Loooong entrances here for everyone.
  • A lot of staring to start this off, too. That was obviously going to happen.
  • Seth and Roman start things off. The crowd’s hyped.
  • As they fight throughout this match, eventually, they start brawling into the crowd and the stage area. The Rock tells referee Chad Patton if he counts them out, he’s fired.
  • Once they work their way back to the ring, Seth eventually starts clutching his knee.
  • Seth gets beaten down for a while, but makes a hot tag to Cody, who hits a Beautiful Disaster Kick and a Cody Cutter for a two-count on Roman.
  • Reigns hits a Superman Punch for a near-fall of his own.
  • Lots of leeway for The Bloodline, naturally. Good storytelling there to put the pressure on the babyfaces.
  • It seems like a lot of people (from what I can see, at least) are saying this is going on too long and it’s a bit too boring for them. I’m okay with it, but I understand that point of view, too.
  • Seth saves Cody and Roman inadvertently spears The Rock!
  • Rollins and Rhodes hit double pedigrees, but only get two-counts.
  • Cody gives Rock a Rock Bottom through the table, which is immediately followed by Roman spearing Seth through the security barricade.
  • Cody gets two Cross Rhodes off, but when he goes for a third, Rock nails him in the back with the weight belt. Rock Bottom to Cody. People’s Elbow, and that’s it. Rock pins Cody, meaning Bloodline Rules tomorrow and a bigger mountain to climb, while Seth is all banged up heading into his match with Drew McIntyre as well.
