Author’s POV, Running Commentary & Thoughts:

National Anthem last night. God Bless America tonight. Neither being America the Beautiful is very interesting.

Oh hey, Stephanie McMahon is starting off the show! She mentions how this is the first WrestleMania under the Paul Levesque Era and welcomes everyone to WrestleMania.

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre

  • Drew McIntyre has a Scottish pipe band to play him to the ring for his entrance (before his normal theme). Rowdy Roddy Piper was so good. I’m sure there are those disappointed that Broken Dreams isn’t being played, but this does just fine for me.
  • Seth Rollins has Mummers for his intro.
  • Woooow, this match started off immediately with a Claymore for a two-count. That shocked the audience into some PTSD from Daniel Bryan and Sheamus.
  • Rollins hits a Pedigree on the outside floor and clutches his knee. Too banged up from the injury and from last night.
  • Rollins keeps the fight going, though. Eventually, he gets a second Pedigree, this time in the ring. That sets up a stomp and…a two-count.
  • Another Claymore after a Future Shock DDT and Drew still doesn’t get the three-count.
  • After some messing around with the commentary table (which no one goes through), eventually, Drew hits another Claymore and captures the title!
  • Rollins is in tears, but seemingly says “You deserve it, man” (if I’m reading his lips correctly). McIntyre gives a kiss to his wife ringside and then goes to the commentary table to trash talk CM Punk.
  • Punk grabs McIntyre’s legs and flips him, sending him crashing into the commentary table. He keeps kicking him AND DAMIAN PRIEST COMES OUT!
  • Priest hits McIntyre with the Money in the Bank briefcase and cashes in!

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Damian Priest

  • South of Heaven chokeslam! 1-2-3! We have another new champion!!!

Snoop Dogg has joined the commentary team for the next match. Also, Bubba Ray Dudley will be our special guest referee!

Philadelphia Street Fight

  • According to Corey Graves, this is the first WrestleMania for everyone in Final Testament, including Paul Ellering. That’s interesting.
  • Kendo sticks are getting broken, Scarlett and B-Fab are messy, Snoop Dogg is telling people to call the police, Karrion Kross dropped Bobby Lashley on top of a chair in a way that looked like it could hurt quite a bit. This is a cluster, but I’m enjoying it for the most part.
  • On second thought, I can see why people are complaining this is too messy.
  • The crowd wants Bubba to do something. Seems like they got the hint, as Kross is now pushing Dudley, forcing Bubba to put on his glasses (to a big pop) and coach The Pride to do the Wassup headbutt.
  • He counts them down, 1…2…3..GET THE TABLES! An ECW chant breaks out.
  • The table breaks as they put Kross on it, so they have to get a new one.
  • Tez takes out some frustration on Kross by whipping him a few times with a kendo stick. He frog splashes Kross through the table and Lashley scores the pin for The Pride.
  • This was a mess, but parts of it were fun enough that if you shut your brain off, it delivered enough for me.

AJ Styles vs. LA Knight

  • “Snap into a Slim Jim” is so burned into my wrestling fandom that I love seeing LA Knight doing that sponsorship. Macho Man Randy Savage is underrated. By the way, I’m from the Philadelphia area, and I’m proud of the crowd’s response to being on camera, goofing around doing this. Hilarious.
  • New music for AJ Styles. I like his old theme, so it’ll take me a while to get used to this, but it doesn’t sound bad. Just generic.
  • It seems like the crowd is chanting “turn the lights off” and “I can’t see” due to spotlights.
  • LA Knight peels off the padding outside, exposing the floor. But while he attempts a piledriver on Styles, The Phenomenal One back body drops Knight instead.
  • Knight just barely makes the 10-count at a solid 9 and a half.
  • Styles goes for a 450, but Knight gets his knees up. Knight also dodges a Styles Clash attempt and hits a BFT for the win.

King and Queen of the Ring is confirmed for Saudi Arabia on May 25th.

Time for the Hall of Fame parade.

Triple Threat Match United States Championship Match: Logan Paul (c) vs. Kevin Owens vs. Randy Orton

  • Logan Paul comes out on a tank with a Prime bottle cannon attached. Someone (I’m assuming KSI) is in a Prime bottle costume accompanying Paul to the ring.
  • Sami Zayn is there to hype up Kevin Owens for his entrance, saying “Your turn now” while holding up the Intercontinental Championship. Loved that.
  • Owens gets a cart to drive down the ramp, and actually gives Randy Orton a chance to hop on, driving them both down instead. Orton nearly fell after telling Owens to slow down (ha). I’m digging this friendship angle between the two.
  • Owens and Orton start off the match double-teaming Paul. They’re just beating him down, working on all his limbs, up until the point that the both go for a pinfall at the same time.
  • “Only one of us can win, but….we’re not doing this now.” – Owens. Orton then tries to go for an RKO, but Owens dodges. Randy has a “sorry, oops” look and the fans chant “You fucked up”. “You want to do it now?” Owens asks. “Okay.” And they’re slugging it out now, too, giving Paul an opportunity to hit a double-clothesline on them.
  • Owens hits a double cannonball into the corner, but when he goes for a Swanton, Paul gets his knees up.
  • Paul hits a Swanton of his own on Owens and immediately rolls into a frog splash on Orton. Nice.
  • Chant for Gatorade against Paul.
  • Orton hits a double draping DDT. Goes for an RKO on Paul but gets pushed into a superkick from Owens.
  • Nice moonsault from Owens onto Paul.
  • Owens goes for a pop-up powerbomb, fails, goes for a Stunner, fails, and Orton hits an RKO on KO for a 2-count.
  • Paul brings out the brass knuckles. But they’re not enough for Orton, who kicks out!
  • Owens takes a shot with the brass knuckles, too, and rolls out of the ring.
  • RKO to Logan Paul, but The Viper isn’t able to crawl over for a pin.
  • Now, Orton has the brass knuckles, but he hands them to the referee instead of using them himself. Alternatively, he starts gearing up for a punt kick…but the Prime bottle mascot pulls Paul out of the ring.
  • The mascot is iShowSpeed, who eats an RKO on the commentary table for his efforts.
  • After a series, Owens hits a Stunner on Orton, but only gets a two-count.
  • Pop–up powerbomb gets reversed into an RKO. Logan Paul throws Orton out of the ring, frog splashes Owens, and gets the pin to retain.
  • Best match of the night so far in my opinion.

WWE Women’s Championship Match: Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bayley

  • Bayley’s entrance has a very Egyptian vibe to it. I’m not sure what she’s going for there. Am I missing something? Cool ring gear, nevertheless. I’m disappointed she isn’t using her old NXT theme with the wacky waving inflatable arm-flailing tube men. Instead, she has the most generic entrance music you can imagine. Another poor theme that nobody will pop for since it won’t be obvious who is coming out (which is a plague on this current era of WWE).
  • Iyo works on Bayley’s legs, trying to tap into her former injuries.
  • ♫ Heeeey Bayley, ooh, aah, I wanna knooooow if you’ll be my girl ♫ – the crowd is bringing that back.
  • Iyo hits one of her trademark moonsaults to Bayley on the outside. She’s dominating this match.
  • Another moonsault attempt, but this time, Bayley gets her knee up. Damage to her leg in the process, but it blocked the moonsault. Right after, Iyo locks in a crossface, though.
  • Bayley gets a defiant slap to Iyo. That fires Iyo up, though, and the two have a flurry of offense, culminating with a moonsault—but it’s just another two-count.
  • Bayley goes for a Rose Plant, Iyo escapes, but eats a clothesline, then a suplex and an elbow drop.
  • Rose Plant successful and Bayley gets the pin to win the title.

Snoop Dogg is back (with the Eagles cheerleaders) to announce the attendance: 72,755. The two-night total is 145,298.

Here we go, everyone. Let’s see if this new era gets kicked off with a new champion, or if it’s more of the same “gotcha” type booking that we’ve been seeing for years now. Is this WrestleMania 30 with Daniel Bryan winning, or is it just a repeat of last year guest starring The Rock? Will this be WrestleMania 10, celebrating Bret Hart defeating Yokozuna, or WrestleMania 34 where the fans leave feeling like years of build were for nothing?

Bloodline Rules Match for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes

  • Cody’s got a cool skull helmet and Brandi Rhodes by his side.
  • Roman Reigns has a choir and orchestra for his entrance. Very cool.
  • I don’t think I’ve had nerves for a pro wrestling match like this since I was a kid, hoping that Stone Cold Steve Austin would overcome The Corporation.
  • Kendo stick brought into play. Roman introduces it. Cody gains possession, but quickly loses it.
  • Time to brawl into the crowd. Cody suplexes Roman on some table structure (they don’t go through it).
  • Cody goes for a Beautiful Disaster Kick, but Roman catches him and powerbombs him to the mat.
  • Skip forward a few minutes, Cody’s able to hit the Disaster Kick, but of course, it’s a no-go. We’re a long way’s out, I’d expect. It’s only 10:16.
  • Ooooh, Roman hits a Cross Rhodes on Cody. It’s a two-count, naturally. “I just wanted to rub it in his face. I love whipping his ass.” says Roman to Paul Heyman.
  • Bionic Elbow to Roman as Cody fires back.
  • Cody clears the commentary table. Roman low-blows Cody after that. Reigns then powerbombs Rhodes through the table, reminiscent of his Shield days.
  • He follows it with a Superman Punch for a two-count.
  • Cody blocks a spear with a kick and follows it up with a Cody Cutter for a two-count.
  • Fair play, Cody hits a spear on Roman for a two-count.
  • Cross Rhodes #1. Attempt at #2 is blocked by Jimmy Uso interfering with a superkick.
  • Jey Uso is here to help fight him off! He spears Jimmy off the stage and they go crashing into a table.
  • Roman hits a spear, but it’s a two-count.
  • Reigns goes for his guillotine, but Cody tackles him so they both tumble to the outside through the ropes. Cody then spears Roman through the security barricade.
  • Cross Rhodes again (#2). He hits another (#3 in total). And then, Solo Sikoa nails him with a Samoan Spike and drags Roman over Cody’s body. But Rhodes kicks out!
  • Solo goes back on the attack. Roman hits another spear. Cody kicks out again!
  • John Cena’s theme hits!!! He’s out to fight off Sikoa!!
  • He also hits an Attitude Adjustment on Roman Reigns, then gives one to Solo Sikoa through the Spanish announce table!
  • And now, The Rock is out!! We’ve got a “holy shit” chant from the crowd as he stares down with Cena.
  • Cena gives him a “You can’t see me” and immediately eats a Rock Bottom. He takes out his weight belt and the theme from The Shield hits! Seth Rollins comes out through the crowd with a chair, but he takes a Superman Punch from Roman Reigns.
  • And now, Undertaker’s gong goes off!!! The lights go out!! The Dead Man is in the ring to take out The Rock with a chokeslam!!
  • Lights go out. Undertaker and Rock are out of the ring. It’s just Rhodes and Reigns, a weight belt, and a steel chair. Scratch that. Seth Rollins is still there. And Roman decides to hit Rollins with a steel chair in the back.
  • Cody blocks a spear and hits a Cross Rhodes. He hits a second. A third! He goes for the pin AND HE WINS!!!!! THE CROWD GOES BALLISTIC!!
  • We get a WrestleMania 10 moment with some of the top babyfaces celebrating in the ring. Orton, LA Knight, Cena, Sami, Kevin, Jey, Brandi are there, with Jey and Sami lifting Cody up on their shoulders.
  • CM Punk joins the celebration.
  • Owens helps Mama Rhodes into the ring as Michael Cole says “Damn it, I love professional wrestling.” and some more family members enter the ring. Brodie Lee Jr is among them.
  • Cody gets a microphone and says it is up to 2 people for why he came back to WWE, and without them, he wouldn’t be here. He asks for Bruce Prichard and Triple H to come out.
  • Hugs around. Sami Zayn and Randy Orton hoist Cody back up again.
  • Cody hugs Michael Cole, shakes the hands of Corey Graves and Pat McAfee.
  • People start funneling out. But Cody has a moment with Seth Rollins where they shake hands and say a few words. Triple H gives him some more words and another handshake, too. They leave the ring to Cody by his lonesome.
  • Cole is crying as he talks over the celebration, saying it doesn’t get any sweeter than this and sometimes, this business gets you right in the heart.
