WWE RAW Results (8/7/2023)

Cody Rhodes opens the show. He talks about Brock Lesnar growing up here in his hometown. He has had the honor and the misery of surviving Brock. Cody points us to the titantron to show the mark of respect between him and Lesnar. His Mom told him that Brock acknowledged him. He feels on top of the world and that he could beat anybody. Cue Seth Rollins’ arrival.

The last time he talked about the World title, Cody was the first to get in his face, so he is here to return the favor. If Cody says he can beat anybody, why don’t we put that theory to the test? The Judgment Day shows up to ruin the moment. Damian Priest calls them confused. They apparently think they run Monday Night Raw, but they do. Speaking of things you don’t do… you don’t dictate what happens with championships. Senor Money In The Bank does.

Priest says Dirty Dom isn’t done with Cody. Dom is handed the microphone. He tries to say something but is drowned out. Finn Balor springs up out of nowhere to attack Rollins. Sami Zayn joins the fray for some payback. Rhodes, Rollins & Zayn fight them off and hold the ring. Cody has a solution for this. How about the three of them against the three of them? The World Champion doesn’t look happy with being forced in to this match, but we’ll see what happens.

Earlier today, Adam Pearce called in Ricochet, Tommaso Ciampa, Matt Riddle and Chad Gable in to his office. They will face each other in a fatal four way to decide the #1 contender to Gunther and his Intercontinental Championship. Chad Gable is in his hometown and wants to win this match to get one back on Gunther. “Thank Yoooou!”

#1. [IC Title #1 Contender] Ricochet vs. Tomasso Ciampa vs. Matt Riddle vs. Chad Gable – Winner: Chad Gable with the German Suplex pin on Ciampa

Sami Zayn plays peacekeeper between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins ahead of their match. He asks if they are cool? They are cool.

The Miz is ready for his photoshoot but is told he has to wait because of LA Knight. Someone’s jealous of the Mega Star.

#2. Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Bronson Reed – Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura with the Kinshasa

Ludwig Kaiser makes his way in to the locker room of Alpha Academy to talk to Maxxine Dupri about how Gunther will treat Chad Gable in their match. Otis steps in and challenges him to a match.

Becky Lynch hypes up her match with Trish Stratus next week as the best of the previous generation against the best of the current and future. Zoey Stark interrupts her. Lynch says that no matter how good she is, she’s too stupid to realize that Stratus is dragging her in the wrong direction. She won’t even be here after next week. Stark says she does not play second fiddle to anyone and is amazing at what she does. She is the fastest rising star in WWE and is also the baddest. Bad choice of words.

Shayna Baszler is here to prove her wrong. Becky says she looks rough. Shayna says that’s fine, because she doesn’t look as rough as Rousey, and the crowd thanks her for scaring her out of WWE. Baszler asks Stark who the baddest is now. Becky Lynch gives a shoutout to Adam Pearce to ask if they can make this official. He promptly appears to make it so.

Backstage, tensions escalate between Finn Balor and Damian Priest, as both aren’t sticking to the plan. Rhea Ripley gets in the middle of them to play peacemaker again. Before walking away, JD McDonagh says this may not be his business, but it’s clear that Money In The Bank is coming between them, so they should get rid of it.

#3. Shayna Baszler vs. Zoey Stark – Winner: Shayna Baszler with the World’s Baddest Slam

Shinsuke Nakamura is tired of people getting in his way. From now on, he goes his own path. We hear a commotion happening around the corner, so Byron Saxton leaves the interview to find JD McDonagh beating up Sami Zayn to take him out of the main event.

#4. Otis (w/ Maxxine Dupri) vs. Ludwig Kaiser (w/ Giovanni Vinci) – Winner: Ludwig Kaiser

Imperium looks as if they are about to attack Otis after the match, but Chad Gable shows up to help his friend. Gunther and his friends walk away because they were simply sending a message.

Seth Rollins lets us know that Sami Zayn will not be medically cleared for tonight’s main event. Shinsuke Nakamura interjects to say if they need a partner, he will do it. Rollins accepts the help by shaking his hand.

The Miz complains about the disrespect he is getting from guys like LA Knight. When he started, he was taught about respect and showing it to those who paved the way. LA Knight did not introduce himself and did not shake his hand. Of course, it is time for LA Knight to give The Miz a response. He grabs a microphone and waits for the crowd to chill. Let me talk to ya! He introduces himself and extends his hand for a shake. The Miz says no. He does not deserve to shake his hand. He’s seen other superstars come into this company and try to ride his coattails.

If you were to strip away everything he has, LA Knight is what would be left. The fans love him now, and they might love him for the next five months, but he’s just an Attitude Era fanboy playing dress up in his ring. He still takes it personally that when he started, he was kicked out of the locker room. He has made himself indestructible the past twenty years. What has he done in that time? LA Knight has made himself a dangerous man. He has been making a name for himself. Scratching and clawing on the outside, just waiting for the right opening.

The Miz got a twenty-year head start because he is the safe option. The line given to LA Knight was they weren’t ready to take a chance on him yet. They knew if anyone tried to kick him out of the locker room, he’s a dangerous man, he won’t take it. Still, The Miz because every champion he could and good on him. But here he is on the climb and his career is in the damn toilet.

Tell you what, if he wants to make it personal, he doesn’t mind making him a stepping stone. He’s talking about stepping over him to get to the main event. The Miz says he is the main event, and he’s not on his level. That’s an interesting theory, because Knight is looking at him dead in the eye and he isn’t proving him wrong. He isn’t going anywhere. The Miz looks like he’s about to back out, but goes for the cheap shot. Knight hits him with Blunt Force Trauma. The “Yeah Movement” cannot be contained.

#5. The Viking Raiders (w/ Valhalla) vs. The New Day’s Xavier Woods & Kofi Kingston – Winners: The New Day with the Limit Break

Shayna Baszler tells Becky Lynch she didn’t need her help tonight. Now that Ronda Rousey is out of the way, she has some scores to settle, including with her at some point. The Man says she is not hard to find and is looking forward to it.

The New Day is back in WWE to bring some positivity to this tag team division.

Before the next match, Raquel Rodriguez blindsides Rhea Ripley and a fight breaks out. Adam Pearce, referees and officials do their best to separate them.

#6. Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Judgment Day’s Damian Priest, Finn Balor & Dominik Mysterio (w/ Rhea Ripley) – Winners: Nakamura, Rollins & Rhodes with an assist from Sami Zayn

After the match, Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins showed each other respect and celebrated the victory. Shinsuke Nakamura showed his true intentions by taking out Seth Rollins with a Kinshasa.
