Should Wrestlers Have More Creative Control?

Having creative control of your character is a great way to go “Over” with the crowd. For some un-imaginative wrestlers it’s probably best to leave it to creative to decide their path, whom in the end will most likely ruin their character/career in the long run.

During the 90’s and early 2000’s, it seems as if the wrestlers in WWE had somewhat control of their characters as well. During those times, it seems as if almost every character, whether they were main eventers, mid-carders, or certain jerkers, was over, the crowd pops where huge, even for the minor league players and I believe that was so because all the wrestlers had some form of say so as to how their character was portrayed. Nowadays for some you could hear a pin drop in the arena.
Unless you are a main eventer or close to it, you pretty much have no say-so as to how your character is portrayed. You are told what to do, say, etc. If you don’t like it, move on. Apparently, a lot of guys would like to speak out about being unhappy with their gimmicks, but are afraid if they do so, they will get fired.~~~ See Dolph Ziggler
So, the question I would like to put on the floor is, do you believe that all wrestlers should be able to choose what gimmick they would like to have? Or should they be told what gimmick they will have, hope they can make sugar out of shit, and if they can’t, take their lumps and not complain? Is having Paul Heyman as head of creative or more involved with the creative side a better solution?
