ROH Survival of the Fittest 2009: Tyler Black

ROH would not host a 2008 edition of the tournament. This would lead us to the 2009 tournament winner, Tyler Black. Black would defeat Kenny King to advance to the finals of the tournament. He would go on to defeat Colt Cabana, Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli, Delirious, and Roderick Strong in the finals to win. His championship opportunity would take place at ROH Final Battle 2009, where he would wrestle Austin Aries to a 60-minute time limit draw in the main event. Tyler Black would eventually win the ROH World Championship at the 8th Anniversary Show in New York City when he defeated Austin Aries in the main event. Black would hold the championship for 210 days, before dropping it to the aforementioned Roderick Strong.

Black would go on to sign with World Wrestling Entertainment in 2010, where he would wrestle under the name “Seth Rollins”. Rollins would become the inaugural NXT Champion in 2012. That year, he would also make his main roster debut as one-third of The Shield. Rollins would go on to become a grand slam champion in WWE – as a two-time WWE Champion, two-time WWE Universal Champion, two-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, six-time WWE RAW Tag Team Champion, and a former WWE United States Champion. As a former Money In The Bank holder and Royal Rumble winner, Rollins has held almost every prize in the company.

Seth Rollins currently competes as a top heel on WWE’s SmackDown brand.
