Every since we knew that Sting had signed with the WWE, everyone has been clamouring for Sting versus the Undertaker. I was one of the many that wanted to see this happen but after Lesnar was the opponent and ended the streak last year, it doesn’t make a lot of sense anymore and honestly, that match might have been hard to watch. This next match for Sting will likely be his one and only ever in a WWE ring and I would like to see a compelling match with a lot of emotion and a great storyline plus maybe an actually good wrestling match. Triple H is able to do all of those things for Sting. Here are some reasons this makes sense.
1.) There is already buzz for this and Sting is agitating Triple H even further. After this past week on Raw, it was clear that Sting was only going to let the Authority get so far into a diabolical plan and if the Authority is ever going to feel truly safe again carrying out a master plan, they will have to rid themselves of Sting.
2.) Triple H still cuts better promos then most of the people around and that will make up for Sting not really being in that position over the last 2 years or so. I think the build up would be great as long as Sting doesn’t Brock Lesnar the heck out of this storyline and only show up every few weeks. Even if he does, so he keeps that mystique, Triple H will keep the heat and intrigue going long enough to get to the ultimate payoff at Wrestlemania.
3.) The match would just flow better. We seen from the Wrestlemania match last year that the Undertaker is showing his age terribly. You don’t want Sting’s only match to be a match where everyone says, “10 years ago, that would have been a good match.” Triple H can still go and is in great physical shape. He could keep Sting away from the ring rust more by carrying the match for awhile until Sting hits his big finish.
There are so many more things that could and likely will happen between now and Wrestlemania with these two but I think that if Sting is having a match at Wrestlemania, it needs to be against Triple H. If Undertaker has a match, put him up against Bray Wyatt and maybe have a backstage segment where Sting and Taker have a stare down and get everyone thinking about Wrestlemania in Dallas (where Sting lives now). Maybe they try to have that match then if Taker feels capable.
At the end of the day, Sting versus Triple H is truly what is best for business…..at least right now.
