Here is a full preview of WWE King and Queen of the Ring 2024.

PPV EVENT INFORMATION

Date: Saturday, May 25, 2024

Start Time: 11 a.m. ET (countdown), 1 p.m. ET (main show)

Location: Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

MATCH CARD, PREDICTIONS & HEAT INDEX ANTICIPATION LEVELS

(as currently advertised; card is always subject to change)

Temperature Scale = Scorching > Hot > Lukewarm > Temperate > Chilly > Cold > Freezing

Heat Index is my assessment of how interesting the segment is, including how excited I am for the match and how intriguing the feud has been. The hotter, the better. Scorching translates to not being able to wait to see it, while Freezing means I couldn’t possibly care less and think it will be awful.

SINGLES MATCH FOR THE UNDISPUTED WWE CHAMPIONSHIP:
Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Logan Paul

Heat Index = Hot
Prediction: Cody Rhodes wins.

Thoughts: Even though I was confused about where they would go with a title-for-title match and the future of the United States Championship, I was, admittedly, more interested in this when that was still on the table. Now that it’s just a standard WWE title match, some of that hype died down for me. Don’t get me wrong—I’m still down to see this. In fact, this was one of the matches I was most looking forward to seeing this year. I just think putting the U.S. title on hold and setting it up this way made it even more obvious Paul has no chance at winning, whereas if Paul had dropped the title beforehand and if this were maybe taking place at SummerSlam in Cleveland, I’d consider the belt more in jeopardy. Nevertheless, I have a feeling they’ll work well together, and I’m nowhere near bored with Cody as champion compared to some people who are already past it.

KING OF THE RING TOURNAMENT FINAL:
Gunther vs. (Randy Orton or Tama Tonga)

Heat Index = n/a at the moment
Prediction: Gunther wins.

Thoughts: We don’t know the SmackDown side of this until that airs on Friday. However, considering this is Gunther against Orton or Tonga, I cannot imagine WWE booking a heel/heel match with Gunther against Tonga, can you? It seems like a lock The Viper goes over MFT. Then, he loses to The Ring General, soon to become The King General. I’m all for Gunther as King of the Ring. It’ll give him an accolade to hang on to until he becomes WWE or world heavyweight champion. I’m also down to see Gunther against Orton in general, as that’s one of the biggest matches Gunther can have with this current roster. A win over The Apex Predator will look great on his resume.

QUEEN OF THE RING TOURNAMENT FINAL:
Lyra Valkyria vs. (Nia Jax or Bianca Belair)

Heat Index = n/a at the moment
Prediction: Nia Jax wins.

Thoughts: This one is certainly more up in the air than the Gunther situation. Almost none of this tournament has played out the way I envisioned it, to be honest. I was way off. Now, I’m assuming the finals will see Nia Jax beat Bianca Belair as well as Lyra Valkyria. That way, Jax gets “something to do” and a means to challenge Bayley at Clash at the Castle. It doesn’t make sense for Belair to fight Valkyria, as she’ll be cheered way more over the newcomer to the main roster and doesn’t need the win in any way. Valkyria could win the crown, especially if Liv Morgan beats Becky Lynch and WWE wants to establish Valkyria as the next No. 1 contender. I’m about 50/50 on Jax and Valkyria. A win over Jax on top of capturing the crown really puts Valkyria over, and they do seem to like her. This one’s tough to call. Either match scenario doesn’t get a Hot heat index for me, but I’m still curious about the outcome and I’m really glad that they are doing this.

SINGLES MATCH FOR THE WOMEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP:
Becky Lynch (c) vs. Liv Morgan

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Becky Lynch wins.

Thoughts: Just like the Valkyria and Jax situation, I’m of two minds about this. My heart says Liv Morgan should win the title, as that’s the most interesting outcome. Then, she can feud with Becky in a rematch and/or Valkyria. Maybe Valkyria first at Clash and Becky at Money in the Bank. After that, Morgan can drop the title to Rhea Ripley, if she’s ready to return. But my brain tells me WWE isn’t going to want to have The Man drop the belt just yet. Instead, they’ll have her retain here, set up a gimmick match for Clash, and Morgan will win the title there, instead. I don’t think this match is going to be fantastic, so I can’t put it at the Hot level or Scorching, but I’m very curious who walks out with the belt and which direction they go.

TRIPLE THREAT MATCH FOR THE WWE INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP:
Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable vs. Bronson Reed

Heat Index = Lukewarm
Prediction: Sami Zayn wins.

Thoughts: Chad Gable has to ditch Alpha Academy for real and bring on The Creed Brothers (and Ivy Nile, possibly) as his proteges. In order for that to happen, he has to have a reason to blow up on Otis and say enough is enough. I don’t think Reed has a chance here. Rather, I think he’s the one taking the fall. I could see Otis getting involved again like on Raw, only to have it all backfire for Gable, where Zayn pins Reed (something he’s been struggling with) and Gable can complain that he “had the match won, if it wasn’t for ____.” After that, Gable gets another shot either on Raw or at Clash and wins the title with the help of Brutus and Julius.

OVERALL PPV:
How excited am I for the event as a whole?

Heat Index = Hot > Lukewarm

Thoughts: Without knowing the full card, I’m not sure if I’m Hot or Lukewarm, but I’m definitely interested in this event. It sucks WWE only commits to five matches anymore and fills so many hours with so much garbage commercial nonsense these days. That instantly downgrades my overall excitement for an event. It’s weird how WWE has events with too much filler and AEW jam-packs everything, but I’d prefer a healthier mix between those two philosophies. Nevertheless, we’re crowning a king and queen, two other titles are possibly going to change hands, and the WWE title match should be fun. I’m totally down for this.

What do you think is going to happen at WWE King and Queen of the Ring? Which matches are you most excited to see? Keep the discussion going in the comments below!
